A Life in Books: Dr Robin Morrow founded the first specialist children’s bookshop in NSW, The Children’s Bookshop Beecroft, and managed it for 25 years. She has been a reviewer and commentator on children’s and youth literature in The Weekend Australian and a number of journals. Robin has served on many judging panels including the Children’s Book Council of Australia awards, and the NSW Premier’s Awards. She was made a member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2014.

She’ll also discuss what it means to be a white woman in multicultural Australia, will reflect on why it’s so hard for white people to talk about racism and why we need to do better if we want our country and communities to prosper.

Author, Suzanne Leal, will talk about writing her new novel “The Deceptions” which is based on a true story of wartime betrayal told to her by her late neighbours, Fred and Eva Perger, who were both survivors of the Holocaust.  In particular, Suzanne will discuss the challenges of writing fiction that is based on truth and the moral issues that arise when writing about the Holocaust.
