In the Cove loves a good market and loves organising a good market. They’re a great fundraiser and you can showcase local businesses who do not have a storefront. But how do you find out about the local markets in your area? The answer is simple – the Local Market Guide. The brains behind The Local Market Guide is Greenwich local Edwina Volz.

What is the Local Market Guide?

Local Market Guide is an online directory dedicated to Sydney markets, stallholders and pop-up market events. We proudly promote over 90 individual markets ranging from farmers and artisan markets to pre-loved markets, night markets, pop-up markets and community events. It is a popular resource for market lovers as well as businesses within the industry, providing a platform for market operators and traders to communicate. If you love markets, then you will love ‘Local Market Guide’.

How did you come up with the idea?

I love going to markets and was eager to source fresh produce straight from the farm, particularly for my kids. Frustrated by the lack of resources to easily find market details, I decided to start my own directory. It has evolved into much more than just a directory now, we have a monthly newsletter detailing special events, a Noticeboard to promotes business opportunities for stallholders and a lifestyle blog spotlighting different markets and stallholders. For the past few years, we have also hosted a pop-up market in Martin Place showcasing different markets and stallholders.

How long has it been running?

The directory has been online since 2010.

What is unique about Local Market Guide?

Local Market Guide is the only online directory dedicated to markets in Sydney and surrounding areas. Alonsgide regular markets it also promotes pop-up markets such as festivals and  Christmas markets. It also details interesting events which are being hosted by market themselves including book launches, workshops and talks. There is something different on every weekend!

What are some good markets around Lane Cove and the North Shore?

We love Northside Produce markets, it has great stallholders and a lovely park to relax and enjoy the morning. They are also very proactive in running interesting events alongside their market day. 1st and 3rd Saturday.

The North Sydney Twilight Food Fair is also back from Friday 27th  October. It’s a great way to welcome in the weekend, you can bring a picnic rug, grab some dinner & enjoy the live entertainment.

The Coal Loader Artisans Market in Waverton is fabulous too. It features around 70 local artisans with unique gift ideas. It’s perfect for your Christmas shopping. Next market – 26th November

Why do you like living in Greenwich?

We have lived in Greenwich for four years and we love it here, it’s a great community and such a beautiful location being surrounded by bushland and Sydney Harbour.

If you are looking to do something different on the weekend, why not plan to visit some markets with the help of Edwina and the Local Market Guide.
