Week in Review – 6th May to 12 May 2018

Welcome to our week in review.  On Monday it was a beautiful 25 degrees (see our cover photo) and by Friday it was cold, wet and freezing.  Winter has officially arrived.

Shopping Frenzy in Lane Cove

It was manic in Lane Cove on Saturday.  One of the busiest shopping days of the year is the day before Mother’s Day.  Those last minute shoppers were certainly out and about.

The Lane Cove Market Square carpark was gridlocked after a car was lodged on one of the concrete barriers.  An accident on Longueville Road created traffic issues.  To make matters worse, if you were trying to shop at Woolworths Lane Cove, the chilled food section was empty after a major refrigerator fault shut down half the chilled food section.  Woolworths had to throw away over $50 000 worth of food.

Delayed Opening

Guzman Y Gomez was to open on 10th May.  However, due to gas connection issues, they had to postpone their opening date and the FREE Burittos.  We will let you know the rescheduled opening date.

Masterchef Excitement

A Lane Cove Resident Sarah Clare has made the Top 24 in the 2018 Masterchef Series.  You can read all about Sarah here.

Goodbye About Life

About Life, Lane Cove is closing.  It will be replaced by a Queensland based company called Flannerys who specialise in organic and whole foods.  The About Life Coffee shop will remain open while the rest of the store is refurbished.

About Life Cafe is Still Open

Several Pedestrian/Vehicle Accidents

This week there were several accidents which resulted in injuries requiring hospitalization. On Friday a 45-year-old man was rushed to hospital after a scooter accident. The scooter collided with a car on Centennial Avenue at around 8.20am. The injured man sustained a head injury and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Paramedics have said that the man is “extremely lucky” to have escaped further injury, as his scooter was pushed under the car during the crash, which damaged the scooter extensively.

On Saturday night, there was a motorbike accident on the corner of Mowbray Road and Centennial Avenue.

Also on Saturday night, about 11 pm a man aged in his 40s was crossing a pedestrian crossing when he was struck by a red Mazda on Little Street, Lane Cove.

The man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, was uninjured. He was breath tested at the scene and returned a negative result.

Officers from North Shore Police Area Command established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Be careful out there with the wet roads, today ITC saw five cars stopped on River Road Greenwich and people exchanging details.  It looks like there was a rear end accident and the cars behind the accident could not stop in time.

Crime Report

A car was broken into at Wood Street Lane Cove West on Wood street last Sunday night.  The police caught the offender on Monday morning.
