Lane Cove News Week in Review 9th to 15th August 2020

You certainly knew a storm was coming on Wednesday night when a massive thunderclap struck and dogs started barking.  ITC braced ourselves for lost dog reports (which usually happen during a thunderstorm).  We are pleased to say no lost dogs were reported on Wednesday night  (but we still average about three a week).

Update on the Pathways Longueville Aged Care Northwood Proposal

A spokesperson for Pathways Longueville has advised:

Thank you for your inquiry about our residential aged care project ‘Pathways Longueville’ that we are proposing for our site at 274 and 274a Longueville Road and 4-18 Northwood Road, Lane Cove.

I can advise that following the State Governments gazettal of the Planning Proposal on the 20th May 2020 the Lane Cove Local Environmental Plan has been amended to incorporate the following site-specific controls:
Zone – B4 Mixed Use
FSR – 1.85:1
Minimum non-residential FSR – 0.35:1
Maximum building height – 66.25 RL

Pathways have been working with Lane Cove Council on a site-specific DCP which establishes further urban design parameters that inform the architectural design of the residential aged care facility. In parallel, Pathways has also progressed the detailed design of the building. We intend to lodge a development application in the coming month. It is our understanding that Lane Cove Council will place both the site-specific DCP and the development application on public exhibition and will notify local residents about the exhibition.

Independently of Lane Cove Council, we are currently planning our next phase of community consultation, which will coincide with the public exhibition of the development application. This phase of the consultation will explain the architectural plans to the local community and involves a major update to the project website, a community newsletter and a webinar.

Please be assured that Pathways remains committed to delivering for the Lane Cove community excellence in aged care for older Australians who are no longer able to live independently.”

Lane Cove Council will be discussing the DCP at its August 2020 meeting on Monday 17th August 2020 – detail here.

Background information on the proposal here.

COVID 19 – Lane Cove Update

This week a COVID19 case was registered for the Lane Cove Council area.  The source of infection was a lane cove resident returning from overseas.  They were in mandatory quarantine.

You will have noticed that there have been several posts on ITC Lane Cove Chat about where to get masks in Lane Cove. To get the benefit of wearing a mask, it must be put on correctly. We asked local mum and nurse of over 30 years, Sarah Martin, to tell us how to wear a mask properly and we have a list of Lane Cove places that sell masks. Masks are also available at local pharmacies. But if you want to support some small Lane Cove businesses we have a list of them here – so you will be helping out a fellow Lane Cove resident and getting a mask.  Read more here.

Woolworths has introduced Q-Tracker. It allows you to see how busy a store is almost in real-time (it’s updated every 5 minutes), and when the busiest times normally are. This is an excellent way of planning your shopping trip when there are fewer people in the store to enable social distancing. You can download the app or access on your desktop here.

Coles to Stop Publishing Print Catalogue

From September 9th (just after Fathers Day) Coles will no longer be printing and delivering catalogues. This is a big step forward, and they estimate they will save 10,000 tonnes of paper annually.

Which company will be the next to join them in this move? Some local companies might also take the pledge (and if they do we would be happy to advertise this initiative free of charge)

We have been advised that there is a person who is stealing parcels from Unit blocks in Lane Cove. The person is waiting for people to be buzzed into apartment blocks and then following them in. Tell residents and visitors not to let anyone else follow them in. Might be a good idea to put up a sign about CCTV and not allowing anyone in after you.

Online Puppy Scam

This week North Shore Police Command reported that a Roseville Chase woman lost more than $2300 to an online puppy scam. The woman recently attempted to purchase a British Bulldog pup via a website she later found to be a front for the scam. She is not alone. With more of us working from home, it is a great time to get a puppy. But be careful.

The most common breeds reported were Cavoodles, and French Bulldogs and most people contacted the scammers via an email address they found online.  More details here.
