Lane Cove Festival

Our cover photo is the art installation by local children for the Lane Cove Festival.

Each year a children’s art project is installed in the Lane Cove Plaza to celebrate the festival. This year local schools, kindys and child care centres were asked to decorate a metal hoop by weaving or knotting recycled yarn in a way that reflected their love of Lane Cove.

At the end of the Lane Cove Festival, the artworks will be returned or the material recycled for other projects.

Drop by and admire the work of Bela Babes, Birrahlee Preschool, Cubby OOSH at Mowbray, Currambena Preschool, Currambena Primary School, Farran Street Quality Childcare Centre, Greenwood Lane Cove, Happy Kids Early Learning, Kindy Cove Child Care, KU Osborne Park Preschool, Lane Cove Montessori, Lane Cove Montessori Academy Child Care Centre, Lane Cove Out of School Care, Lane Cove Youth Centre, MindChamps Early Learning Lane Cove, Nicky’s Kids Town, Possums’ Corner Child Care Centre, Shinnyo-en Australia, St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Lane Cove and Stringybark Child Care Centre.

Water Leak – Burns Bay Road and Tambourine Bay Road

There has been a water leak at this intersection for months.  Lane Cove Council have asked Sydney Water to fix the issue.  ITC contacted Sydney Water and was provided with the following comment:

“Thanks for contacting us. This leak has been reported to us under reference 86483246. Unfortunately, due to the leak’s location, this job requires traffic control and can only be completed during the evening. This is currently being organised with our planning department and will be attended to as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience. I have also registered your mobile number to receive a text message when the works have been completed.”

Mental Health Update

Sydney North Health Network is partnering with Brellah Medical Centre to deliver fully subsidised Psychiatry services, funded through the NSW Government’s Pandemic Mental Health Recovery Package.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the mental health and well-being of many Northern Sydney residents. The NSW Government funding will enable greater mental health service available to ensure the most vulnerable in our community can access the help they need.

Sydney North Health Network Chief Executive Officer, Lynelle Hales, said, ‘ensuring mental health support services are more readily available and accessible is key to safeguarding vulnerable members of our community. We are pleased to partner with Brellah, so that even more people in our region can access these vital services.’

James Britton, Founder and CEO of Brellah stated ‘The team at Brellah are thrilled to be supporting the people of Sydney’s North with such vital psychiatry services. We’re looking forward to working closely with health, community and aged care providers across the region to ensure seamless continuity of care – both where and when people need it most.’

Psychiatry services are available to children, young people and adults with severe and complex mental health conditions who are experiencing financial hardship and other barriers to mental health care. GPs make referrals via the Sydney North Health Network Mental Health Triage Team.

Eligible patients can access three fully subsidised sessions with a qualified psychiatrist. Where required, following GP review, patients may receive up to three more fully subsidised sessions.

Please visit the Sydney North Health Network website here for more information on how to access this initiative and the range of mental health services funded through the NSW Pandemic Recovery Access initiative.

The North Shore Police Area Command currently have a campaign asking you to check you have locked your car and house at 9 pm each night. Read more here https://bit.ly/3K8TqD3.

At about 8 pm (Sunday 21 August 2022), emergency services responded to reports of crashes involving several cars on Arabella Street, Longueville.

North Shore Police Area Command Officers attended the scene and observed a sedan had crashed into three parked vehicles.

The driver – a 53-year-old woman – was uninjured and allegedly refused to provide a roadside breath test.

She was arrested and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for observations and mandatory testing and has since been released.

Investigations are continuing.

Around 2 am today (Tuesday 23 August 2022), police were called to Lucretia Avenue following reports of stealing from a motor vehicle.

North Shore Police Area Command Officers attended alongside the Dog Unit and canvassed the area for suspects.

Police have told us investigations are continuing.

ITC received several reports of intruders in the Longueville Area on Tuesday morning.  One person told us they were at their front door when they saw a man approaching.  The man saw the homeowner and fled.  The homeowner said the man was dressed the same as the person in the video above.
