EGA Tobacconist

ITC noticed the old Sloans salon (they have moved to new premises across Longueville Road with a very fab fit-out) is now a Tabocannist and Confectionary Store – it looks like the business known as Lane Cove Tobacconist has moved and rebranded.

We noticed that the store was being fitted out at the same time as the other store had fixtures removed and painted.

Opening in 2023

Jack and Co

Since Caltex Longueville/Northwood closed down, we have been asked this question*: What is happening with that site? What will go in there?

We are pleased to say that Jack & Co Food Stores (who have been great ITC supporters and supporters of small producers and farmers) are expanding their Northwood Store – The expanded store will have room for more food and bakery items, customer seating on the side where Caltex used to be (we have even heard rumours of a doggie washing station). Below is the artist’s impression that has been submitted to Lane Cove Council.

*Many Many times but not as many as When is Harris Farm Opening?

Roll’d and Grill’d

ITC has been asked to provide an update on when Grill’d and Roll’d Vietnamese will be opening in Lane Cove.

Grill’d has advised that they will be opening in the New Year and not December as planned.  They are taking over the old TAB building in the Lane Cove Plaza.

Roll’d has no opening date scheduled as yet.  They are taking over the old Oliver Brown store in Lane Cove Market Square.

Closed/Closing

The Source Bulk Foods Lane Cove

The Source Bulk Foods Lane Cove has closed.

Personally, ITC would like to thank the Source for being an ITC Business Supporter but also they were amazing at telling people about ITC. If they discovered someone was new to Lane Cove, they would suggest that they follow In the Cove to find out about Lane Cove news and events.

There are numerous reasons behind this decision. ITC will be speaking to Geoff and Michelle further, but we do know that since The Canopy opened, the foot traffic to Lane Cove Market Square has reduced significantly. This centre used to be one of the top “mini guns” according to Shopping Centre News. They have also had to deal with COVID-19, staff shortages, sourcing from areas impacted by fire and floods, changes in consumer shopping patterns, and the rising cost of living expenses.

The Source Crows Nest closed down a few months ago.

Geoff and Michelle posted the following on their Facebook page:

“After 7 years we have decided not to renew our lease, and we will close the store at the end of the month.

We would like to thank all our loyal Lane Cove customers for your support over the years. We will miss you!”

Reopened

Baku Swimwear – Reopens

Baku Swimwear has reopened in the Lane Cove Plaza next door to The Hunted Co and Fourth Fish. Just in time for the summer swimming season!!!!  They really struggled during the COVID19 lockdowns as customers wanted to try on swimwear.

That Boat Guy

Lane Cove locals Jason and Sally-Ann are the owners of a business called That Boat Guy. They have relocated their workshop to the Lane Cove West Business Park and recently held a party to celebrate opening the workshop. Check out their boat dog in HI-Vis (when he is on the water, the boat dog has a doggie lifejacket)!!

The business might be called That Boat Guy, but they fix anything 12v, which includes car audio, 4WD accessories, caravan wiring, trailers and more.

Jason has over 30 plus years of fishing and boating experience and will do pre-purchase inspections for boats. He also has a CertV in workplace training and assessment and provides tuition for those new to boating – including launching/retrieving/docking.

Milestones

Shorties Lane Cove Celebrates a Milestone Birthday

Big Happy 5th Birthday to the Shorties Lane Cove boys. ITC fondly remembers breaking the news that Shorties was coming to Lane Cove, and who knew what a hit neighbourhood bar it would be. The Sunday sessions are very popular, and the weekly roast has you asking what is on the roast menu this week.   Fun fact, they are called Shorties as they are not far from the Longy.  At one stage, during the COVID19 lockdowns they did not think they would make five years – so well done!!

Businesses We’ve Just Heard About

Majime Life

ITC has just heard about a locally owned online business called Majime Life!

Their founder told us:

“Majime Life was born in 2021 from a desire to showcase Japan’s creations and ideas and learn more about its deep culture. Japan has so much to offer and especially in these times we know there are many who are eager to visit the land of the rising sun.

We plan to bring our customers the finest to the quirkiest of products, designs and ideas from Japan, even if it represents just a fraction of the ultimate experience of visiting there. We are just starting out with bento boxes, but as we grow as a small business, we will offer a wider range of unique products and experiences.”

Great Christmas ideas!!

Haus of Maple

ITC has just found out about a new business called Haus of Maple – Specialising in Holistic Counselling, Hypnosis, Meditation, and Reiki…. just to name a few!

Many of you may know Lane Cove local Lochie Beh from Lane Cove Theatre Company and Tonique Hair. Lochie is the owner of Haus of Maple and here is what he has to say…

“I’ve had an amazing opportunity to look into people’s lives over the years.

To listen, to acknowledge, to reframe, to guide…. I’m bringing this knowledge with me to every session.

I have studied with Tad James Company, Mind Body Education, Daniel Hawken, Divine Healing, Inspire Holistic Training, and Elizabeth Heck to name a few. These amazing teachers and mentors in Psychotherapy, Hypnosis, Meditation, Reiki, Spiritual guidance, Life Coaching and Holistic Therapies taught me amazing techniques and therapies, allowing me to assist you further. Adding to this is also my certification in Natural Medicine and Herbalism.

Being a hairdresser for over 25yrs, I understand communication is hard for some, so I’m here to help you as much as I can.

We can go for a walk, have a talk or simply sit in silence if that’s what you need.

Love, Light & Laughter ”

Young Guns Alert

Amity Marketing  – Young Guns Alert

ITC likes to promote businesses run by young entrepreneurs, and we have quite a list of them (when we get time, we’ll write a comprehensive article to showcase the talent and drive of our younger business people.)

Today we would like to showcase Sam Rigney from Amity Marketing.

Local Sam Rigney started Amity Marketing in 2021 off the back of the realisation that many small businesses in the Lane Cove area needed help with digital marketing and website design. When dealing with larger companies, local businesses often felt overwhelmed (and overcharged) and unsure of how to proceed. In a bid to help Lane Cove business owners navigate digital marketing, Amity Marketing was born.

Prior to starting Amity Marketing, Sam gained valuable experience working in his family business (Zjoosh).

Since launching, Amity Marketing has continued to grow from strength to strength due to a dedication to customer service and an R.O.I-focused approach to digital marketing and design.

Amity Marketingis currently looking to take on more clients as 2022 draws to a close within the website and graphic design space as well as social media and digital marketing management (Google/Facebook ads + EDM marketing).

For more information, head to www.amitymarketing.com.au or reach Sam directly at [email protected]

Ros Gervay Creative

Hi, I’m Ros. It’s lovely to meet you!I am an Australian abstract artist based in Sydney with a passion for all things art, colour, creativity and design. Incredibly grateful to live in in Sydney, I am in constant appreciation of our natural world and strive to express this gratitude through my art practice.

I have always been interested in creativity and art from a very young age. I happily remember the days of clag glue, finger paint, paper mache and plaster master. I studied visual arts at school as well as textile design and design & technology. At a tertiary level, I explored design and art at a deeper level… and here I am today… still loving creativity and expression with the aim of forming beauty with my hands. Being in the soul-enriching space of art and creativity allows me to feel at peace with the world.

My passion for art and the importance I see in creativity is no longer something I can keep to myself! I now offer an online watercolour course entitled “Permission To Paint” for creative women who want to explore art agani and welcome it back into their lives. To help others to reap the benefits of creativity and art is a hugely rewarding mission and I am so grateful to have the platform to be able to do that.

Here on my website, I also share with you my recent paintings, all of which I have been lovingly created using professional-grade materials – typically either acrylic paint on stretched canvas or watercolour paint on 100% cotton paper. My artworks are original, contemporary, modern and mostly colourful and energetic. My artworks inject colour and vibrancy into the homes of my collectors in Australia and across the seas.

Thank you for dropping by and thanks for the chats! Sign up to my newsletter, follow me on Instagram, find me on Facebook, send me an email… it’s so great to see you here!

Currambena Primary School and Preschool

Currambena School was founded in 1969, following a Public Meeting of parents, teachers and academics from Macquarie University.

Currambena Limited is a registered not-for-profit company with its own Memorandum and Articles of Association designed to maintain its special character.

Currambena Values are:

“We believe that every child has gifts and talents that can be recognised and developed at Currambena. Our curriculum – all the learning experiences of the child – develops from the view that children are adventurous in acquiring knowledge, intellectually curious, keen to find out and actively engaged in making sense of their world.

We make sure that the child is placed at the centre of his or her own education, for example:

  • Topics in the classroom are decided by the children. The class teachers then draw upon the NSW curriculum to ensure that appropriate skills in all areas are acquired.
  • Children’s progress in learning is facilitated by negotiation with the teachers; a process that reveals the options and choices available to the children.
  • Our children are placed in classes according to social and academic maturity, friendships and age. They move to the next group when they are ready. Transition between classes can take place any time in the school year.
  • Continuous individual assessment replaces formal testing.
  • Children usually work as individuals or as members of a small group. Whole class teaching is not a significant part of the teaching arrangements. In this way we believe that the different talents and needs of each child can be addressed.
  • The voices of the children are significant; their views are respected. They develop warm trusting relationships with their teachers.”
