Yesterday (Tuesday 31 January 2023), officers from North Shore Police Area Command responded to reports of a man being held following an attempted armed robbery along Greenland Road, Lane Cove North.
Officers were informed a 43-year-old man was stopped at traffic lights whilst riding a motorbike when he was approached by a man, who allegedly threatened him with a handgun and demanded he hand over the motorbike.
With the assistance of bystanders, the rider managed to restrain the 23-year-old man until police arrived. According to one eyewitness, the rider was a boxer so it did not take him long to subdue the younger man.
The younger man was arrested by police at the scene. A gel blaster firearm was located a short distance away and seized as an exhibit.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both men for minor injuries. They were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for observation.
Upon being discharged from Royal North Shore Hospital, the 23-year-old man was conveyed to Chatswood Police Station.
Inquires also established that he was allegedly in breach of bail conditions from an unrelated matter.
He was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm and breach of bail.
The Werrington County man has been refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court today (Wednesday 1 February 2023).
