Congrats to Norma and Wally.
Norma Tracey has lived in Lane Cove for a long time, and on the Australia Day holiday she tied the knot with Wally at a street party wedding.
Wally and Norma met at a “Meet up” Dinner. Wally said he recognised her from their University days some 60 years before. She had no recollection of him. That was only five months ago, but the relationship blossomed apace.
Norma was concerned about how to introduce Wally to her Avalon Ave neighbours.
Her neighbours had three years before helped her with a dying husband with daily meals for about six months and then meals for her after he died. Their generosity was amazing. Every family in the street helped out Norma.
Norma told ITC:
“I remember my birthday thee months after my husband of 50 years died. I was sitting alone so depressed and a knock came on the door I opened it, and there was a basket full of amazing gifts from every house in the street. They stood in the middle of the road because of Covid and sang “Happy Birthday!”
“I was worried about how to introduce a “new husband” to them. I need not have worried, the front door rang and eleven children were there with cards to greet and welcome him to our street. Wally was tearful, as grandfather to eleven children, he never dreamt of finding love again, as indeed I had not.”:
“The whole street made the entire wedding for us, even the beautiful wedding cake.
Lane Cove Council closed the street and congratulated us.
It was a day of real celebration with 150 guests – our families, our friends, but most importantly our street- a real village wedding.
Our local butcher Steve from Hummerstons with his wife and children came and Figtree Greengrocers made platters of fresh amazing fruit for the tables.
Is this a hope sign for the future?
As we live longer shall we bring joy to the world in the spirit of a village?
Thank you my Street! I will never forget this precious day and Wally had tears in his eyes the whole day.
The boys in the street can’t wait for our garage to be converted into a men’s shed so they can come and watch and learn about woodwork!!”
