Do You Have a Piece of Lane Cove Public School History Hidden at Home?

Lane Cove Public School Principal Terry McKinnon

Somewhere in Lane Cove, tucked away in a cupboard, garage, photo album or memory box, there may be a piece of Lane Cove Public School history waiting to be rediscovered.

Lane Cove Public School is preparing to celebrate a very special milestone – its 150th anniversary.

Established in 1876, the school has played an integral role in the Lane Cove community for a century and a half, educating generations of local children and leaving a lasting legacy.

You do not need to be a current school family to contribute. The school would love to hear from former students, former staff, past parents and long-time Lane Cove residents to share old photographs, artefacts and memories connected to the school.

The school is particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have photos from sporting events, plays, musicals, excursions, camps or other school moments. Old uniforms, badges, trophies, documents, programs, newspaper clippings or any other items linked to Lane Cove Public School could also help tell the story of the school’s past.

Principal Terry McKinnon said the anniversary was a chance to reflect on the school’s history and its place in the local community.

“We want to honour our past, celebrate our present, and look to the future,” Mr McKinnon said.

“We’re inviting everyone — whether you’re a current family, an ex-student or a community member — to rummage through your cupboards, garages and attics for any memorabilia.”

The items and stories collected will help create displays for the school’s anniversary celebrations and preserve the school’s history for future generations.

Former students are also encouraged to share personal recollections, anecdotes and memories of their time at Lane Cove Public School. These stories may be included in an anniversary publication, giving voice to the many experiences that have shaped the school over 150 years.

The celebrations will culminate in an on-site public event on Friday 7 August 2026, featuring displays, performances and opportunities for former students, families, teachers and community members to reconnect.

Lane Cove Public School is asking anyone with items, stories or memories to contact the dedicated anniversary email address: [email protected]

Items may also be brought to the school office during school hours.

This is a lovely opportunity for the Lane Cove community to help preserve and share the history of one of our oldest local schools.
