300 Burns Bay Road Petition Tabled in NSW Parliament
The community ePetition “Stop Overdevelopment at 300 Burns Bay Road, Lane Cove” has closed with 651 signatures and is being tabled in the NSW Legislative Assembly by the Member for Lane Cove, the Hon. Anthony Roberts MP. Because the petition passed 500 signatures, the relevant Minister is required to respond in writing within 35 days. The petition reflects community concern about a major development proposal at the site.
We’ll keep you posted as this story develops.
Vandalism Incident at Wadanggari Park & Child Struck by Police Car

On Monday night, 1 June 2026, Police were called to a fire at the Wadanggari Park playground. As the marked Police car arrived, it struck a 9-year-old boy on the Pacific Highway near Christie Street. He was treated at the scene and taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, in a stable condition. A crime scene was established and an investigation is underway. Read more here.
Wadanggari Park playground has been vandalised repeatedly since opening — read our article to find out more and hear how Lane Cove Council is tackling the issue.

The Men’s FIFA World Cup kicks off this Thursday, 11 June and runs until 19 July. It’s being played in Canada, Mexico and the United States. An initial schedule of live screenings at The Canopy has been announced — so come on down and join in some communal cheering of the World Game. Australia’s Socceroos have their first match on Sunday afternoon.
Scheduled screenings
Thursday 11 June, 11am: Countdown Concert
Friday 12 June, 11.30am: Korea Republic vs Czechia
Saturday 13 June, 10.30am: USA vs Paraguay
Sunday 14 June, 1pm: Australia vs Turkey
More screenings are set to be announced as the tournament progresses. There was a great atmosphere during the Women’s World Cup screenings in 2023, so we’re looking forward to seeing that replicated this tournament.
FRNSW Urges Residents to Check Your BLEEPING Smoke Alarm
Winter is here, which means heaters, electric blankets, fireplaces — and a very good reason to check your BLEEPING smoke alarm. Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) says firefighters could not identify a working smoke alarm in 45% of the residential fires they attended last year. It only takes 30 seconds to test yours. FRNSW also offers free Home Fire Safety Visits, and our local Lane Cove crew can give advice and even install a free 10-year smoke alarm if needed. Find out more here.

An Orchestra Born in Lane Cove Returns to the Spotlight
Here’s a lovely thread of local history. Mosman Symphony Orchestra may call Mosman home today, but its first notes were played right here – it began life as the Lane Cove Symphony Orchestra in 1975, with a debut concert at Lane Cove Town Hall. More than five decades on, pianist Dong Jun “DJ” Ha, known to many from ABC’s The Piano, will make his orchestral solo debut with the orchestra on 20–21 June. Read the full story here. (Concert details are in Upcoming Events below.)

Historic Lane Cove North Property Sells
There was a bit of buzz in the media around the sale of “Karingal” in Lane Cove North. The property was owned by John and Nancy Stone — John was head of Treasury in the 1970s and early 1980s, and later a National Party Senator for Queensland. John and Nancy settled in Lane Cove in the early 2000s. Read more about the property on realestate.com.au here.

General Information
Stamp Prices Set to Rise — Have Your Say Before 22 June
Australia Post has proposed raising the price of a standard stamp from $1.70 to $1.85, with the change expected to take effect in mid-to-late 2026. The ACCC has released a preliminary view not to object to the proposed 8.8 per cent increase. Concession stamps and seasonal greeting card stamps won’t be affected. Australia Post estimates the change will impact the average household by around 75 cents per year, though businesses and organisations that send large mail volumes will be more significantly affected.
If you’d like to have your say, there’s still time — consultation on the ACCC’s preliminary view is open until Monday 22 June 2026, and submissions can be sent by email. For more on the process, see the ACCC.
A Local Cause Worth Backing Before 30 June
With the end of the financial year approaching, many locals look for somewhere meaningful to direct their tax-deductible giving. One option closer to home than you might think is Women & Children First, the not-for-profit that runs Delvena Women’s Refuge on the Lower North Shore, supporting women and children escaping domestic and family violence. Donations of $2 or more made before 30 June are tax-deductible. Read more here.
If anything in this raises something for you, support is available — 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732, 24 hours), Lifeline (13 11 14), or call 000 in an emergency.
Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios — End of Financial Year Appeal
For more than 50 years, Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios has existed because the community decided it should. As a not-for-profit, the gallery is asking for support ahead of 30 June. Every tax-deductible donation, large or small, goes straight into its exhibitions, classes and artist programs. Not in a position to give? You can still help by sharing the word, bringing a friend to the next opening, or leaving a Google review. Donate before EOFY here.
Hunters Hill FOGO Bin Rollout Underway
Just over the river, Hunters Hill Council’s FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) bin rollout is now underway. Over the coming weeks, old green bins will be collected and replaced with new FOGO bins, delivered to each household by the waste contractor — so there’s no need to collect them yourself. Deliveries are happening progressively over about three weeks, so don’t worry if yours hasn’t arrived yet. More information and FAQs are at huntershill.nsw.gov.au/fogo.

Lane Cove FC Teams Face Off In Club Derby
Sunday evening saw a top of the table clash for two Lane Cove FC’s women’s teams. WO30/1B faced their club colleagues from WO30/1Y.
As division winners last season, the 1Y team came into the match with plenty of confidence. However, with true Lane Cove determination, 1B were never going to make it easy for them.
The deadlock was broken in the final minutes of the first half when 1Y capitalised on a corner kick that would not have looked out of place at a World Cup, taking a 1–0 lead into the break.
Despite a valiant effort from 1B, two further goals from 1Y in the second half sealed the result, with the reigning champions winning 3–0.
With family and friends lining the sidelines, the atmosphere at this Lane Cove derby did not disappoint. While there was rivalry on the pitch, club pride was on full display, with players and supporters coming together for post-match celebrations.
Part two of this derby awaits in the final match of the season and promises to be another high-energy encounter. All smiles from players and their supporters after the match.
