Whether you are a tennis fan or an aspiring champion, here is an opportunity to experience the thrill of an Australian Open-inspired event.

Imagine stepping onto the tennis court as you prepare to take on your opponent. But you only get one point to prove yourself.

That is the excitement of the 1 Point Slam, where each point counts and anyone has the chance to take the top spot.

Lane Cove Tennis Club (LCTC) is hosting the Australian Open 1 Point Slam for the second year. The event will run on Friday 13 November from 4.30pm to 6pm at the club’s Kenneth Street courts in Longueville.

Everyone aged over 12 is encouraged to join, regardless of their experience, and entry is free.

Every match is decided by a single point, with no second chances. A serve of the ball in a rally immediately determines the winner. The format is designed to be unpredictable and fast-paced, ensuring players and spectators are always paying attention.

Last year, there were around 50 to 70 people and Lane Cove Tennis Club is anticipating a bigger crowd and louder cheers this year.

Sue Woodward, secretary of LCTC, says the fun event allows everyone to “test their skills, meet new people and enjoy a great atmosphere”.

“It’s a fun way to spend a Friday afternoon together, whether you’re playing or cheering from the sidelines,” she said.

The final winner of the day will then move on to the NSW State Championship at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre on Sunday 22 November. There is also a further opportunity to compete in the Australian Open, where the overall winner receives a $1 million prize.

Last year, Jordan Smith from Castle Hill Tennis Academy won the 2025 One Point Slam, even beating Jannik Sinner along the way.

Off the court, everyone can also put their serving skills to the test with a speed gun to see how fast they can serve.

Spectators are always welcome to enjoy the music, connect with the community and watch a good tennis rally!

After the last point is played at around 6pm, you can pop over to The Diddy for pizzas and refreshments.
