Community Shows Support For Sam
Sam Pratt’s cheer squad turned out in force this past weekend, and we were lucky enough to be right there in the thick of it. For those who missed the lead-up, Sam is a 29-year-old Lane Cove para swimmer and Australian squad representative who has spent months at Royal North Shore Hospital, unable to get home to Greenwich because her house is not wheelchair accessible. Jack & Co Northwood and Lane Cove Swim Club teamed up across Saturday and Sunday to help change that, with a sausage sizzle plus a dollar from every coffee and fuel sale going towards the modifications she needs.
We spent both days down at Northwood lending a hand on the BBQ, and what a weekend it was. It was wonderful to chat with so many of you, and to meet so many of Sam’s friends and family. Seeing the community come together like this, for something so special, was a real reminder of what Lane Cove does best. Turning up for one of our own.

Community Information Session For Project Mars
Goodman Group has opened bookings for community information sessions in August about its proposed data centre at 12 Mars Road, Lane Cove West. The sessions are a mix of online webinars and short 1:1 sessions. Registration and bookings are essential for both formats. The online webinars will be held on Tuesday 11 and Thursday 13 August from 6 pm – 7.30 pm. One-on-one appointments will run for 20 minutes and will be held at the Lane Cove Library on Monday 10, Tuesday 11 and Thursday 13 August. Full details, session times and how to book here.
Lane Cove Rotary’s Guest Speaker Highlights Local Impact Of National Crisis
When Lane Cove Rotary hosted Mary’s House Services at its July club night last week, the message was a confronting one: domestic and family violence isn’t happening somewhere else, it’s happening here and in other suburbs like ours, and demand for support services has risen 63% in the past year alone.

Kidpreneurs Put Their Business Skills On Show
On Saturday 25 July Kidpreneur Fest returned to The Canopy. The sunny afternoon saw kids taking charge of their very own market stalls. There was plenty of handmade jewellery and accessories, baked treats, books, 3D printed toys, games, lemonade and even some self-published books from some very impressive young entrepreneurs. It was a great chance to support local kids and see so many kids trying out their ideas.
Lane Cove Schools Shine at PSSA Gala Day
It was a big day out for our local schools at last week’s PSSA Gala Day, with Lane Cove schools taking out two of the three divisions on offer. Congratulations to all the young players who represented their schools so well.
Hurry — Entries For Lane Cove Art Awards Close Sunday
If you’ve been thinking about entering the 2026 Lane Cove Art Award, this is your final nudge; entries close this Sunday 2 August at 11.59 pm. The annual award, run in partnership by Lane Cove Council, the Lane Cove Art Society and Gallery Lane Cove, has been recognising artistic talent in the community since 1965.
The top prize is a $15,000 acquisitive award, with additional sponsored prizes on offer including the $2,000 Hyecorp Property Prize for Lane Cove residents and Art Society members. Finalists will be notified on 21 August, with the exhibition running from 16 September to 3 October 2026 at Gallery Lane Cove. Lane Cove Rotary’s Car Boot Sale is back on Sunday 20 September. Do you have a garage, cupboard, or spare room full of items you no longer need? Library Open Day This Thursday
The Lane Cove Library is opening its doors for a Library Open Day this Thursday 30 July 2026 to show residents why it is the top lending library in NSW, as part of the Open Doors, Open Books, Open Minds event. This is a coordinated statewide Library Open Day, delivered by the NSW Public Libraries Association and the State Library of NSW during Library and Information Week. The campaign aims to increase visibility and understanding of library services, strengthen advocacy, and grow membership by welcoming new audiences and highlighting the many ways libraries support their communities. Lane Cove Music Presents: Australis Harp Duo — Tales from Afar
Lane Cove Music presents the fourth concert of its 81st season, featuring the Australis Harp Duo, Verna Lee and Azumi Lehmann, performing Tales from Afar. The duo performs on two harps, moving through classical, romantic and traditional repertoire with a modern edge for a beautifully distinctive evening of live music.

Junior Rugby Players Deliver Their Best Performance of the Season
The Lane Cove/St Ives Junior Rugby Union U12s side put in their strongest performance of the season on the weekend, running out 53–0 winners over Inner West Barbarians. Lane Cove Junior Rugby Union Club says the dominant victory was built on a strong forward pack, with the tight five delivering powerful pick-and-drives and a formidable scrum that gave the team a consistent platform throughout. There were some great solo and team efforts to put points on the board. In the backs, the team showed composure and showcased the running rugby they have been developing in training. The final scorecard was a reward for the effort that has been put in at training and the determination the team brought on game day.

Police Appeal For Witnesses After Fatal Crash

On Monday 20 July at approximately 11.30 am a pedestrian was hit by a right-turning Toyota van at the intersection of Penshurst Street and Macmahon Street, North Willoughby. The 81-year-old man was taken to RNSH with minor injuries, however he sadly passed away around 10 pm that night. The driver was uninjured and returned a negative breath test. North Shore detectives are investigating and are asking anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV or information to come forward. Woman Charged Over Alleged Shoplifting Offences Across the North Shore

A 46-year-old woman has been charged following an investigation into a string of alleged shoplifting offences across Sydney’s North Shore. North Shore Police Area Command allege at least six supermarkets and a department store in the Neutral Bay, Chatswood, Crows Nest, St Leonards and North Sydney areas were targeted on 13 occasions between March and July 2026, with the total value of stolen items estimated at more than $11,000. Police arrested the woman near a St Leonards supermarket on Sunday 26 July and allege they seized a large quantity of toothpaste, drinks and pain-relief products from a shopping trolley. She was charged with 13 counts of shoplifting and breach of bail, and refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court.
Two Charged After Police Seize 107kg of Ketamine on the North Shore

A man and a woman have been charged after police seized 107 kilograms of ketamine, cash and drug paraphernalia on Sydney’s North Shore. Following an investigation into alleged drug supply, detectives from North Shore Police Area Command searched a unit on Hampden Road, Artarmon, on the evening of Friday 26 June, allegedly seizing around two kilograms of a prohibited drug believed to be ketamine, along with scales, gloves, resealable bags and luggage. Three days later, on Monday 29 June, police executed a search warrant at a North Sydney hotel and arrested a 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both UK nationals. Officers allegedly located mobile phones, just over $2,000 in cash and documents police will allege were drug ledgers, and a further 105 kilograms of a prohibited drug believed to be ketamine in the boot of a hire car. Both were charged with supply offences, including supplying a large commercial quantity, and refused bail. They are due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 26 August 2026. Police will allege the pair travelled to Australia for the sole purpose of taking part in the distribution and supply of large commercial quantities of prohibited drugs, and investigations into anyone else involved are continuing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
