NSW Health has released new guidelines on vaccinations.
Who can get a vaccine now?
If you are 60 years and over and have not yet been vaccinated, please book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment with your doctor (GP) immediately.
If you are in Greater Sydney, you can now receive your second AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine dose 4-8 weeks after your first dose.
If you are in Greater Sydney and have had your first dose of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine but your second dose appointment is not within the next four weeks, ask your GP to bring your appointment forward. This will give you protection sooner.
If you are aged 40-59 years, have not yet been vaccinated and are unable to obtain an appointment for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, please discuss your circumstances with your GP or book an appointment at a NSW Health vaccination clinic for the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Anyone aged 18-39 wishing to get the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, is encouraged to talk to their GP or to book an appointment at a NSW Health vaccination clinic or participating pharmacy.
Please be aware your GP is working hard to support you to receive your COVID-19 vaccination. Please be respectful, your GP will make every effort to help you.

NSW Health vaccination clinics and participating general practices and pharmacies across the state are open for COVID-19 vaccination bookings. If you are aged 18 years or older you can book an appointment now.

COVID-19 vaccines are free for everyone in Australia regardless of Medicare or visa status.

Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI)
ATAGI released the following statement:
“ATAGI reinforces that the benefits of vaccination with COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca strongly outweigh the risks of adverse effects in those ≥60 years, and that vaccination is essential for this group in the context of an outbreak.
Every effort should be made to support vaccination of people in priority groups (e.g., older people, healthcare workers, disability and aged care workers, and those with listed medical comorbidities).
In the context of a COVID-19 outbreak where the supply of Comirnaty (Pfizer) is constrained, adults younger than 60 years old who do not have immediate access to Comirnaty (Pfizer) should re-assess the benefits to them and their contacts from being vaccinated with COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca, versus the rare risk of a serious side effect.
While the recommended interval between the first and second doses of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca is between 4 and 12 weeks, in outbreak situations an interval of between 4 and 8 weeks is preferred. Therefore, people in an outbreak situation who received their first dose of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca more than 4 weeks ago should contact their vaccine provider to arrange their second dose as soon as possible. In non-outbreak settings, the preferred interval between doses of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca remains at 12 weeks.
All people who receive COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca should be provided with information about common and rare but serious side effects, including the symptoms and signs of the thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS). They should be advised that if they experience any signs or symptoms consistent with TTS, they should seek immediate medical attention.
Any additional unallocated supplies of both Comirnaty (Pfizer) and COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca should be prioritised to populations and areas of greatest risk of COVID-19.
Recommendations around the use of Comirnaty (Pfizer) remain unchanged in outbreak settings. ”

At what point does ITC feel it is right to follow the government policy on living with covid?
Ie stop reporting every case as though its a big deal and focus on number of hospitalisations and deaths. I dont think a big story about a positive case going into IGA Greenwich should be publicised… we are 90 pct vaccinated and that incident is irrelevant; it looks like stirring up unwarranted panic to titilate us..
Pls advise your future plans on this.

Thanks so much for your comments. We have not been publicising all the cases that we have been made aware of in the Lane Cove LGA and close suburbs and we will be doing less and less of this as people should be aware of checking their history. However, the Greenwich IGA is different. In the last two months, the majority of cases in the Lane Cove LGA area have been in Greenwich. The Greenwich IGA is the most popular store in Greenwich. We were also contacted by a few Greenwich people and asked to publicise it.
If we were stirring up unwarranted panic to titillate readers we would have put this as the lead item in our newsletter that goes out to 5 300 readers. We did not do this and just included it in our Week in Review and not the lead item.
You may or may not have noticed that we stated in our week in review dated 20 October the following:
“Welcome to our Lane Cove Local News week in review, where we tell you what has happened over the last seven days in Lane Cove. As we start getting out and about and being allowed to do more, we will hopefully be reporting less on COVID19 and back to our regular Lane Cove News. This week, the biggest news item was the commissioning of the traffic lights at Burns Bay Road and Tambourine Bay Road”
This is the editorial decision and we review each case on a case by case basis. We no longer publish the daily media release or daily figures and the amount of COVID19 info has declined and we have been encouraging people to get out there and support local business.
