ITC used to visit Anvil Cafe & Grocer when it was hidden away in the industrial section of Artarmon. In May 2017, Lane Cove local Paul Makomaski and his business partner Rani Reddy relocated their cafe from Artarmon to Crows Nest. The Cafe is now conveniently located at 1/54 Alexandar Street Crows Nest near the Woolworths Crows Nest parking station. Anvil Cafe & Grocer is a vibrant, bright industrial chic café.
The ITC family likes to have brunch on a Sunday so we ventured over to Crows Nest to support a Lane Cove local. Unlike other cafes, where a menu can have more pages than the Sydney Morning Herald, the menu is concise. The premise is seasonal food done simply. They offer fresh, generous portions that are beautifully presented. Nearly all the items on the menu are gluten-free or could easily be adapted to be gluten-free.
The kitchen serves up breakfast dishes, special mains, lunch, sweet treats, Sample Coffee Roasters coffee, Teacraft Tea and cold pressed juices for dine in or takeaway!
ITC’s personal favourite is the Arabian Eggs. Once you taste the Arabian Eggs you will never want your regular poached eggs again. I’m not sure which element of the dish I like the most. Is it the caramalised onions, the greek yoghurt or the burnt lemon butter? Order this dish and you will not be disappointed.
Each time I visit Anvil I promise myself I will try the Corn and Quinoa fritters – which looks amazing. I will just have to go back and try them another day.
Mr ITC was in a Granola mood. The Granola looked like an artist palette with seasonal fruit and coconut yoghurt.
Miss ITC was ready for lunch and she quickly devoured the Truck Stop Beef Burger with beetroot, lettuce, tomato, caramalised onion, cheese, fried egg and bacon.
Our Barista Katey served up some kick ass coffee. You could tell the coffee was prepared by a barista who knew what they was doing. If you like what you are sipping you can take it home with you. Their blend and single origin coffees are available to buy and they are happy to grind the coffee beans upon request.
Cook Like This At Home
Anvil also sells wholefood ingredients that can be bought in bulk. This is a lovely homage to the family grocer who used to be located at the premises. You can buy most of the ingredients featured in Anvil’s dishes.
Next time you are looking for a different place to Brunch why not try Anvil Café and Grocer.
*Kitchen closes at 2pm.*
