The road works start from 21st January to 24th January 2019 ( but someone forgot it was 2019 – check out our cover photo).

Macquarie Ice Rink

This week Northern Sydney residents were shocked to hear the Olympic sized Macquarie Ice Rink will be demolished.  Several petitions were launched asking for the owners, AMP Capital, to review their decision.  Yesterday, an AMP Spokesperson said they only had plans for a recreational ice rink (how big would that be?).   Pressure needs to be kept on the owners to change their plans.  Read more here.

Power Outages

On Saturday night  about 1500 houses in Lane Cove, Riverview, Lane Cove West, Hunters Hill and Gladesville lost power.  One resident reported hearing a loud bang and then the lights dimmed with some lights remaining at low output levels.  Ausgrid advised ITC

“At this stage we do not have a known cause for the outage you experienced last night in Lane Cove, Riverview and Gladesville.”

Attempted Break Ins

More attempted break ins were reported this week on both ITC and ITC Lane Cove Chat.

Carranya Road Riverview

Early in the morning (just after one occupant had left for work) the next door neighbour’s dog started barking which prompted the resident to look out of their window. The resident saw an intruder approaching their front door.  The sensor light was on, but this did not seem to concern the intruder  The resident scared off the intruder and notified the police who arrived with the dog squad.

Riverview Street Riverview (near Coonah Parade)

A resident reported 3 males wearing hoodies, gloves and holding torches entered the front of their property at 3.40 am. CCTV footage captured the intruders looking through their garage window.  The intruders then walked down the side of the house and opened the backyard gate.  This prompted their dog to started barking.  The intruders fled when the owner called out to the dog. The police were notified.

Epping Road Apartments

A resident reported, a suspicious looking man of Asian appearance (well dressed in a blue business shirt and beige pants) snooping around their apartment complex and car park.  The man was taking photos, peering through front doors and  windows.  The man was checking if doors were unlocked.  No reports of anything stolen.

Defibrillator in the Lane Cove Plaza

A roving reporter spotted a new defibrillator in the Lane Cove plaza near NAB. Well done to the Lane Cove Council for installing more defibrillators around Lane Cove – we need defibrillators at every sports ground, major parks and reserves. Last year a local doctor saved a man’s life by using the Lane Cove Council installed defibrillators during a sports match. Read more here.

Thank You from Delvena Women’s Refuge Lane Cove

The Manly Warringah Women’s Resource Centre (which runs Delvena Women’s Refuge in Lane Cove) would like to thank everyone who kindly donated supermarket gift vouchers, gifts and toys and much more at Christmas time. Before Christmas ITC received numerous requests from locals asking how they could to donate to Delvena. If you would like to fundraise for Delvena or donate to Delvena the number one item they’re always looking for is Supermarket gift vouchers. These vouchers are given to families relocating from Delvena to new homes and it assists the family with the initial set up (many of these homes are in the Lane Cove Council area). Many women arrive at Delvena with nothing but the clothes they are wearing. Vouchers can be dropped off to another hard working charity in Lane Cove – Sydney Community Services (in the Little Street Car Park building).

Trolleys

Last week we reported the number of supermarket trolleys scattered around Lane Cove had increased.  Several residents noted they have not seen a Coles Trolley Vehicle for many weeks.  ITC contacted Coles, Woolworths and the Lane Cove Council to discuss the increased number of trolleys.  Lane Cove Council rangers spoke to their Coles contact and Woolworths new store manager said he would arrange for more pick-ups.  If you see a trolley lying around use Snap Send Solve to report the issue.

Upcoming Events

There will be plenty of fun things to do on Australia Day in Lane Cove. The Lane Cove Plaza is looking very patriotic with Aussie Flags already in place. We will soon publish our list of things to do on Australia Day and an article on special Australia Day food (Tim Tam crepes anyone?? at Four Frogs Crêperie)
