Lane Cove News Week in Review 21st to 27th October 2019

It’s time for our week in review.  It was a big week of announcements that will impact Lane Cove Commuters.

Early Bird Parking/Commuter Parking or Staff Parking?

As we reported last week, the Lane Cove Council at their October meeting discussed, early bird/commuter parking at The Canopy. Many ITC followers asked why the Little Street Car Park was not being considered for early bird/commuter parking. This seemed a sensible suggestion given the Little Street Car Park is the closest car park to the Lane Cove Bus Interchange.

At the Lane Cove Council meeting the General Manager advised he did not think early bird parking would be used by commuters and the early bird parking would be used mostly by Coles and Aldi staff. This was an interesting comment.  If this is the case, why was employee parking not included in the original plan?  Why promise 500 new car parks for residents when employee car parking is needed?  Read our original article here.

Lane Cove Buses to be Operated by a Private Operator

The State Government announced our buses would no longer be operated by the State Transport Authority. According to our local member Anthony Roberts this announcement is not about privatisation it is about putting the buses in the hands of private operators and looking for some other options like on demand buses. What do you think? Is this a good or bad idea for Lane Cove?  Read more here

Lane Cove Community Events

On Friday night over 700 players descended on Blackman Park for the start of the Lane Cove Seven’s Summer Series.  It’s a truly family event with some families having the whole family play in different teams.  Blackman Park is a terrific venue.

The Lane Cove Plaza came alive with Lane Cove’s Indian community celebrating the Diwali Festival.

For the second year in a row Lane Cove businesses got together (led by The Cake Man Lane Cove) and held a Trick or Treat event for kids.

In exciting news for The Cake Man they are about to open in Warringah Mall.

Hammond Care Submits Updated Plans for their Greenwich Hospital Site

Hammond Care has submitted new plans for the Greenwich Hospital Site redevelopment.  The plan is to upgrade the hospital and include senior’s residential units.  The Greenwich community has expressed concerns about a hospital site being redeveloped into a joint hospital/residential site.

You can view the amended plans here and you have until 21 November 2019 to comment.  There are three aged care/seniors’ living complex planned that will impact traffic on River Road.  There is the development at 266 Longueville Road and the development at the Petrol Station/Riverview Vet site.

Riverview Vet has announced they are moving in early 2020 to Crows Nest due to the development.  Further details here.

Crime Incidents Near Railway Stations in Lower North Shore

Many local Lane Cove kids take the train to school so parents might be interested in some of the incidents that have been reported. Always report all incidents to the police.  Read more here.

Lane Cove Historical Society Prize

Congratulations to Jill Curtin and Sue Ingham joint winners of the Lane Cove Historical Society’s Prize. Jill researched Charles Rosman Ferryman It’s an incredibly interesting account of a man who loved the Lane Cove River and his ferries. Sue’s article is about the vision and reality of owning a house designed by well-known architect Neville Gruzman in Mary Street Longueville. Both worthy winners.   If you know a great Lane Cove story keep an eye out for the Lane Cove Historical Society’s prize next year.

Accidents/Incidents

Lane Cove Traffic came to a complete halt on Saturday morning after a bus broke down at the temporary lights on Rosenthal Avenue blocking the one lane.

Be careful when driving around the Birdwood Avenue/Cox’s Lane Detour. A roving reporter told us there has been two accidents since the detour. One involved her car which was hit yesterday morning at 7. 40 am. The taxi on Birdwood Avenue did not stop and hit her car (she was driving on Cox’s Lane)
