Lane Cove News Week in Review 24th to 30th November 2019

Big news this week with Lane Cove Council announcing parking for over 400 cars will be available in The Canopy on Friday 6th December 2019 (just in time for the lighting of the Christmas Tree event in the Plaza).

Ten years ago this week, Lane Cove Market Square opened. This was a game changer for Lane Cove as we got a Woolies and and an upgraded Library.

Lane Cove Helping Animals

The Sydney Morning Herald has published an article about Joni Freeman iwho is one of the organisers and a Facebook group administrator for the Animal Rescue Craft Guild, one of a number of groups popping up to coordinate community help for wildlife. She has seen the group “double in size and then double in size again” in the weeks since the bushfires, which has been “amazing to watch”.  Read more here.

Incidents/Crime Report

The Fake Leather Jacket man is back. This is what one Roving Reporter told us

“The Leather Jacket Scam is alive in Lane Cove. My husband was in the street near our car about 10 minutes ago when a young Italian in a SUV pulled up to talk to him. My husband drives an Italian car and looks Italian (to other Italians!). The young guy spoke to him in Italian, telling him tales of losing money at the casino, being on the way to the airport, of living in Milan and wanting to buy a present for his wife. He offered my husband leather jackets “worth $10,000″ for him, his brother and anybody else we knew. Then he asked my husband how much money we had – he wanted cash! My husband came in to ask me about what might be going on. He hadn’t heard about this scam, but I luckily I had and quickly told him about it. We went out and spoke to the guy in Italian and said firmly ‘we don’t have any money’, my husband added that we don’t keep money because there are a lot of scams around. The young Italian guy shook hands all round, bid us a farewell and took off quickly. I didn’t think to get the numberplate. There are reports of this scam all over the world, the jackets are PVC made in China and any suede is apparently sheepskin.”
