Philotimo Freestyle Jujitsu (Hunters Hill)
Philotimo Freestyle Jujitsu has been holding its life-skills programs as part of the martial arts curriculum for the past 25 years. It’s a unique program that get kids (and teenagers) speaking with respect, helping others, doing their chores alongside learning self defence.
For the primary aged kids
This program is where students begin to learn valuable self defence skills; mainly defensive moves and more developed rolling and falling skills, & focuses primarily on our world class ANTI-BULLYING program written by our very own Sensei Smith.
Classes have a high level of fitness and you’ll see an amazing improvement in your child’s cardio, flexibility + strength, including across other sports they attend.
- Good sportsmanship
- Personal responsibility for self & belongings
- Respect for self & others
- In-depth training about child protective behaviours
As well as our famous “Manners for the Modern Warrior” program, all part of our focus with this group.
High School Kids
- Level 1 “Transition” – 12 to 14 years
- Level 2 – “Seniors” 15 – 18 years
Teenage classes for boys & girls cover all aspects of personal safety.
This is a full martial arts program that also drills communication with parents and adults, a strong anti-drug message as well as dealing with more mature and difficult aspects of bullying at high school, including cyber bullying. All aspects of personal safety is covered. Students will benefit from good decision making, sizing up risk, making good choices. These students are introduced to basic MMA (Mixed martial arts) and also learn in-depth weaponry skills including knife, cane, jo and bo. Promising students are invited to join our Tournament program.
Teenagers Girls Only
- Level 1 “Transition” – 12 to 14 years
- Level 2 – “Seniors” 15 – 18 years
The “Arktoi” or “Little Bears” were girls in Ancient Greece who looked after the temple of Artemis. They learned wrestling & sparring as part of their training in the temple. Our all-girls martial arts program provides a safe space for girls to learn self defence in a positive & collegiate environment.
Teenage classes specialize with a particular focus on young women. Girls 11 – 17 years are at greatest risk of sexual assault and this age group also coincides with the greatest drop in participation in both martial arts and group sport. Girls have particular requirements when learning the more adult aspects of martial arts and we provide a safe space for them to “be themselves” while developing confidence and skill.

Learn to play classical piano the European way – Margaret Anna Walker
Playing piano is a wonderful skill that can bring you lifelong pleasure and rewards. And learning the traditional European way will provide a solid foundation to help you achieve your musical goals. Your piano lessons will be personally conducted by Anna. Anna was born in Poland and learned to play piano under the tutelage of experienced Russian teachers. She attended formal state schools of music where she completed Levels I and II. As a teenager she earned many top places in piano competitions throughout Europe. Additionally she performed piano concertos with symphony orchestras. Anna will teach piano in the comfort of your own home. You must have a piano (no electronic keyboards).
Anna will tailor your lessons to suit your goals and aspirations. Beginners and students who want to learn to play from scratch and build a sound foundation are especially encouraged. Over time, you will learn to play your piano, learn music theory, be able to read and write music, and develop dexterity through scales, arpeggios, studies and techniques.
Importantly, Anna understands that people learn to play piano through unique learning processes. She is adept at finding what works best for you in order for you to have a rewarding and enjoyable learning experience. Whether you simply want to learn piano for enjoyment or if you wish to progress through grades to conservatorium level, Anna will accommodate your goals and needs.
To get started playing classical piano the traditional European way or to learn more, contact Anna today via email at [email protected] or text her on 0400-654-445.
How long are the lessons?
Anna recommends that children (6-12 year olds) take lessons of 30-45 minutes, teenagers 45-60 minutes and adults 60 minutes.
