Lane Cove News Week in Review 11th to 17th April 2021

Welcome to our week in review.  The holidays are now over, and school returns tomorrow.  Don’t be tempted to ignore the school zones, as local rangers are usually out and about patrolling the school zones even on pupil free days.

47A Penrose Street Boarding House Update

Lane Cove Council has not supported the proposed Boarding House development at 47A Penrose Street. The Lane Cove Planning Panel will review the DA on 21st April 2021. This DA is for a next-generation boarding house (which has received criticism for not being a true affordable housing options but small one-bedroom apartments).
Further details here.

Smoky Saturday

You may have noticed significant smoke hanging around yesterday (see our cover photo).  This smoke was due to hazard reduction burning by the NSW Rural Fire Service.

The following statement was made on their Facebook page:

“Overcoming weeks, fire agencies and land managers will continue to take advantage of favourable conditions to carry out planned hazard reduction work. This includes a 50-hectare burn in The Hills area tomorrow, which will see smoke experienced northwest and western Sydney tomorrow. Due to light winds and a possible overnight inversion, residual smoke haze may continue to be seen through until Sunday afternoon in these areas.
For more information and a list and map of planned hazard reduction burns, visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/hr.”

Intersection Upgrade Longueville Road, River Road West and Kenneth Street

Several ITC followers have asked when the planned upgrade of the notorious Diddy intersection will be completed.  The sign on River Road states the upgrade will be finished in early 2021.  A council spokesperson told ITC the following:

“Our contractor has been undertaking night works on the construction of the intersection. While it looks like no works have been taking place, the contractor has so far completed the installation of all underground services and road crossings. The project is due for completion this financial year, weather permitting.”

Crime Report

Again this week, we were alerted to some suspicious/criminal activity in our neighbourhood.
A roving reporter told us:
“4 hooded men with COVID style face masks in black and white hoodies trying to break into cars Barina road around 230am. Daughter and friend sitting talking in our driveway saw them get into the neighbour’s car! Turned on the car, and they ran, hiding in bushes. Police called and arrived at 2.45 am, patrolling Riverview! “
We were also advised about an attempted break-in in Northwood and another car break-in at a Riverview premises.  A roving reporter advised us there was a house break-in on Centennial Avenue between Burns Bay Road and Epping Road.
Another roving reporter spotted this pile of stolen mail at Longueville ferry wharf outside the Sailing Club.

Feeling good for a sweat session? Do some warm-ups for the first 10 minutes, run for three minutes, walk for three minutes, keep the last two segments at two minutes each, and then cool down with walking.
Drop by the RUN ATHLETIC Studio today and try doing this three times a week for one week.
