Huge weekend of events this weekend, so get ready to have fun and get into the festive spirit.

Fresh Christmas Trees – Scouts Selling 3 December 2022

There is something nice about a fresh Christmas Tree.  The smell of pine wafting through your house.

The good news is that this year you can preorder trees from both the 1st Tambo Scouts and the 1st Lane Cove Scouts, and they have delivery options!!!   You can still pick them up without pre-ordering.  Find out more here.

The 1st Tambo Scouts are selling their Christmas Trees at 7.00 am on 3rd December 2022 – get your tree as close to 7.00 am as you can as the trees sell out quickly.  They will be selling them at St Michaels School on Longueville Road.

Friday 2 December 2022 – Last Day to Post Your Letter to Santa at the Lane Cove Post Office

A few weeks ago In The Cove spotted the Santa Mail Box at the Lane Cove Post Office.  It’s never too early to get those letters to Santa ready (and for mum and dad to take a photo of the letter in case the letter gets “lost” in the mail).

According to Australia Post, sacks of letters have already started arriving at the North Pole from eager kids and they say there are some key dates to ensure everyone gets a response before Santa and his elves get busy loading the sleigh for Christmas Eve.

    Santa Letter Cut-Off Dates

With more than 118,000 letters received last year, Santa needs families to post their letters before 2 December, while schools need to get ready a little earlier and have their letters sent by 24 November.

    Find out more here.

Friday 2 December 2022 – Bluey Live Christmas Experience

Not a festive event, but people do love Springbok Delight’s Hotdogs – they are selling them on Saturday, 3rd December, from 10.00 and to 1.00 pm (they are an ITC Business Supporter, but we just love Hotdogs and Chutney)

Saturday 3rd December 2022 – Splash Into Christmas with the Lane Cove Youth Orchestra 8.00 pm to 9.00 pm

Don’t miss Lane Cove Youth Orchestra’s water-themed Christmas concert to be held indoors in the Lane Cove Aquatic Leisure Centre. So you will be out of the rain, but you can still get wet if you want to!

    • Bring your swim-wear and sit back in a floating pool noodle sling seat!
Or, keep your street gear on and relax in a chair beside the pool.
    • Either way you will enjoy Handel’s Water Music and a variety of Christmas tunes in a very different concert setting.

On the program, are featured talented guests – the Lane Cove Public School Intermediate & Senior String Ensemble with director Cathy Upex.

A fun way to hear music from talented local musicians.

Greenwich Village Games 2,3 and 4 December 2022

The Greenwich Village Games are back after a six-year absence.  They are usually held in the same year as the summer Olympics.  It is a great family-friendly event with 8 teams and participants from 2 – 100.  ITC competed last time, and Mr ITC three-legged race recovery after a near disaster is legendary (in our house).

Events include a canoe relay on the harbour, a mud run in the mudflats, caber toss, tennis ball throw, slow cycle race, various fun relays and gumboot throwing, egg and spoon.

All teams have been practising their skills and a weekend of camaraderie and friendly competition is guaranteed.

Read our article we wrote about the Greenwich Games just before the 2016 event – we go through some history and stats and what makes the Greenwich Games such an awesome community event – ITC thinks every Lane Cove Suburb should have a community event like this.

ABC Radio presenter Josh Szeps spoke to John Tindall, the chairperson of the Greenwich Village Games on his show – you can listen to the interview here.

Even if you participating drop down to Bob Campbell Oval over the weekend and enjoy this community get-together and combination of unique sports.
