Lane Cove News Week 25th to 1st November October 2023

Welcome to our week in review.

Lane Cove Goes All Out for Halloween

Parents and kids enjoyed Halloween in Lane Cove. More houses were decorated, and the streets were full of kids and parents enjoying the nice weather and meeting locals. The ITC household ran out of treats by 6 p.m. (we had 180 individually wrapped chocolate treats and 40 packets of chips).   Kids, adults, and dogs wore impressive costumes.

Lane Cove Council in the News

The Sydney Morning Herald published an article this week about allegations made by a Lane Cove Council Compliance Officer regarding Lane Cove Council’s alleged failure to adopt a swimming pool inspection programme.

The article mentioned that a toddler had drowned in a Greenwich pool. This is not correct. ITC wrote an article about this last week, and before publishing the article, we checked with NSW Police, who advised us that an incident did take place, but the child did not pass away. ITC wrote to the SMH journalist and informed them of their mistake, and a correction was made. You can read our article here and SMH’s article here.

Have Your Say on the Future of Two Lane Cove Parks

The Lane Cove Council has released their proposed master plans for two popular parks in Lane Cove – Burns Bay Reserve and Stringybark Creek Reserve.

Burns Bay Reserve

Burns Bay Reserve in Lane Cove is accessed via Kooyong Road, off Riverview Street. It is a peaceful spot by the water with a playground and sports grounds. It is an excellent place for a picnic, but the toilets need to be upgraded as soon as possible. Read more about Burns Bay Reserve here.

Lane Cove Council has requested the following:

“Help us design an open space for you! Your feedback will help the Council better understand the needs and desires of Lane Cove residents and visitors to this harbourside park.

As part of the Operational and Delivery Plan of Parks and Playgrounds 2023 – 2024, Burns Bay Reserve is programmed for a master plan. The masterplan will encompass the whole reserve, including the waterfront area, sports fields, parking, playground, entry into the bushland and facilities of the reserve.

Stringybark Creek Reserve

Stringybark Creek Reserve is accessed via Murray, Ralston and Nundah Streets. Read more about the reserve here.

Lane Cove Council has requested the following:

“Help us design a park for you!

The master plan will guide ongoing changes and improvements to the park over time – this includes the whole reserve, connections from the street, and the entry to the Harry Howard Bushwalk.
