Welcome to our week in review.
Tragedy At Greenwich Fishing Spot
A heartbreaking accident occurred on Monday, 14 April 2025, near the Greenwich Sailing Club.
An 86-year-old man’s car accelerated through the car park, hitting his 74-year-old wife before plunging into the river. Brave bystanders rescued the woman from the water.
Police divers later recovered the man’s body from the Parramatta River. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating incident.
Update on Ausgrid Land Sale
We recently published an article about Ausgrid selling off land in the Lane Cove Council area and around the North Shore. The substation land located at 24a Kenneth Street, Longueville, went to auction last week and sold for $ 1,795,000.00.
The reserve was $ 650,000. ITC understands that a neighbour purchased the site.
You can read more about the sites that were being auctioned here.
Bendy Buses Returning: When Will Lane Cove Commuters See Service Improvement?
The NSW Government has announced that it will begin reintroducing some of the 83 articulated buses removed from service due to chassis cracking.
Six repaired buses will return to service by the end of April 2025. They will be deployed to region 8 of the bus network, which services the Northern Beaches. More than half of the buses that needed urgent repairs are serviced in this region.
As each articulated bus is returned to service, two regular buses can be deployed across the network. However, whether bus operators have the drivers required to drive them remains to be seen.
It is unclear how long it will take for additional buses to return in region 7, which provides the buses that service Lane Cove. Our only information so far is that the remaining buses will continue to be repaired and rolled out when ready in other regions “over the coming weeks and months.”
See our article from last month about the announcement of 50 new buses. It covers the compounding factors that have been affecting Lane Cove bus services.
ITC’s Meet The Candidates Forum For Bennelong
Order of Candidates (drawn from a hat – very technical)
Jerome Laxale – ALP
John August – Fusion
Barry Devine – Heart Party
Adam Hart – Greens
Craig Bennett – One Nation
The following did not respond to our request:
Robert Nalbandian – Trumpet of Patriots
Eric Chan – Family First (unable to find any contact information)
Scott Yung’s Campaign initially told us they had a clash but were confident they could move it. However, after we started promoting the event, they advised that they couldn’t move the other function, which ended at 9.00 pm.
ITC gave Scott Yung the option of a spot at 9:15 p.m. to make a presentation and then be asked some of the previously asked questions. Scott Yung’s campaign manager returned to ITC late on the forum day and advised that they would text if their function finished early. A text was not received.

Lane Cove Public School Officially Opens New Hall
On Friday 11 April 2025 past and present members of the Lane Cove Public School community gathered to celebrate the official opening of the new school hall.
Named Gumal – meaning friendly place, the new hall replaces the one destroyed by fire in January 2020. It has been a long journey with planning changes, Covid and builder collapse among the causes for delay.
The hall has already become a hive of activity over term one, with assemblies, sport and the Easter Hat parade being able to be held no matter the weather.
At the official opening speakers including Principal Terry McKinnon spoke of the importance of having a place to gather to learn, perform and celebrate as a school community.
The current school captains Elijah and Jessica, as well as School Council President Emma Sorensen shared their memories of the old hall, and all the events it held, as well as their optimism for all that is to come with the new hall.
The official opening also included a ribbon cutting, music, singing and dance performances, as well as the school’s term one Honour Assembly.
ArtXtra Opens At Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios
On Friday 11 April 2025 the Lane Cove Art Society’s ArtXtra! members’ exhibition officially opened at Gallery Lane Cove. This exhibition features work by local artists in a variety of mediums, including painting, Printmaking and drawing.
The Lane Cove Art Society aims to encourage, recognise and reward artistic talent in the community. The opening night was packed with locals eager to see the artwork.
Kylie Bryden Smith, representing the Management Committee of Centrehouse, who manage the operations of the Lane Cove Gallery and Creative Studios, spoke about how The Lane Cove Art Society was an important partner of the Gallery. Both organisations have a strong commitment and passion for fostering a thriving visual arts culture in Lane Cove. Both organisations are as a result of the vision and support of Lane Cove residents, Lane Cove Council and acclaimed artists Lloyd Rees and Guy Warren.
The winners of the two top prizes for “best in show” were:
Lloyd Rees Prize – Cape Lighthouse by Ardele Blignault (see photo gallery below bottom right hand corner)
The Judge’s notes on Cape Lighthouse were: This composition draws you in with quiet ambiguity. The hypotic use of low tonal key makes this a very successful painting.
Guy Warren Prize – Secret Garden by Camelia Milner (see photo gallery below top left hand corner)
The Judge’s notes on Secret Garden were: This confident painting has great power compositionally. The use of colour and simple shapes gives it surprising depth and interest in a fresh irrational way.
The exhibition runs until 23 April 2025. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy and buy art created by local artists in various styles and media.
Other winners were:
- Oils or acrylics: Abby Chambers – Interior view, from Studio 2
- Watercolours: Dianna Hallowes – Colour of our Gardens
- Pastels, drawings & prints: Cilla Davis – Budgie and Me
- Highly commended prize (oils & acrylics): Phoebe Stone – Villefranche-sur-Mer
- Highly commended prize (watercolour): Irina Kozyrevitch – Wisemans Ferry
- Highly commended prize (mixed media): Sylvia Davies – Observatory Hill View

Police are urging motorists to take extra care during these school holidays following increased fatalities on the state’s roads.
Deputy Commissioner Paul Pisanos said the number of lives lost on our roads this year has already reached an alarming level, with 39 crashes resulting in 41 people killed in March, the highest in a month since 2019.
“Last year in NSW there were 85 murders; however, four times as many people – 338 – died on our roads: that is a senseless loss of life,” Deputy Commissioner Pisanos said.
“The only way to stop the carnage is for drivers to step-up and stick to the rules, it’s just not worth your life. One wrong move behind the wheel and you’re dead.
“With the death last night of a man in Muswellbrook, 103 people have now died on NSW roads this year; that’s far too many families left without a son, father, daughter or mother, the road toll rips lives apart,” he said.
Of those fatalities, 19 were aged 26 to 35, 18 were aged 76 to 95, followed by 17 aged between 18 to 25. The young man who died last night is awaiting formal identification.
Of these, 45 were drivers, 17 passengers, 27 motorcyclists, nine pedestrians and five cyclists.
Regional roads account for the deadliest roads for fatalities this year, with six people killed on the Princes Highway, six people killed on the Hume Highway, and four on the Pacific Highway.
NSW Police will have a high-visibility presence across the state during Operation Easter 2025 and Operation ANZAC Day 2025 to coincide with a higher number of motorists travelling across the state.
