Meet Anne Roze, a Greenwich local, author, and crusader promoting healthy, balanced and sustainable eating.
Our beautiful area is the inspiration for the novel helping families and locals live healthier lifestyles
Last month, In The Cove published a blog post about Yummy Times Group (YTG) and its ‘Be SEEDsational’ campaign, which involved a competition sponsored by a number of local businesses working to educate all age groups about healthy eating and balanced lifestyles. This competition does not stand alone, as YTG’s work extends across many mediums including a graphic novel entitled, Be SEEDsational: Discover the Magic.
NSW Government research shows that 22 per cent of children in NSW are overweight or obese, and this number is growing. Inspired by her passion for health and balanced lifestyles after more than 25 years of research into food and eating habits, YTG’s CEO and Lane Cove local, Anne Roze, decided it was time to share her knowledge in a new and unique way. With this, the Be SEEDsational series was born.
Be SEEDsational: Discover the Magic, the first book in the series, is part graphic novel, part activity book that lets families become involved in the healthy eating movement together. The magical story revolves around educational themes of sustainability, healthy eating and self-identity. The book is fun and interactive, with the final page including real parsley seeds that kids and parents can plant together for building family bonds. “This is the mother lode if you have an insatiably curious child and want to direct them toward health and happiness,” says Julia Blanks from Ariel Booksellers, Sydney.
Accredited Practising Dietitian, Lisa Chen, has also praised the book, saying: “The most impressive part of this book is the underlying message that it brings to our society – what is ‘eat and live seasonably’, why is it so important, and how can we achieve this mission?”
All aspects of the book were developed and led by Anne and her team. Anne decided to use a style that was inspired by Japanese manga as she felt it allowed for greater character expression and reduced the amount of words required to tell the story, therefore making it accessible to a wide audience, including very young children, helping them to develop healthy habits for life.
As a local for more than 25 years, having raised her two children in Greenwich, Anne is dedicated to her community and often describes her hometown as “like being on holidays”, due to the relaxing natural environment and village atmosphere, despite being so conveniently located close to the city. With the area’s lush greenery acting as such an inspiration, it’s hardly surprising that she and her company are actively involved in the community, focusing on helping everyone to live their best life.
It’s with great excitement that Anne announces her second book is on the way! It continues from the educational health messages she carefully wove throughout the first story. Haven’t read the first book? Get involved! You can purchase Be SEEDsational: Discover the Magic from the Be SEEDsational website or in store, at Dymocks Lane Cove or Berkelouw Books in Paddington.
Be SEEDsational: Discover the Magic is also available in a special English/Cantonese version, which allows children to explore language whilst enjoying the educational story.
