The Lane Cove River Road Rollercoaster Challenge by Our Expert Running Coach Andy Smith

Our resident running expert Andy Smith from North Shore Running and Outdoor Fitness last month put  together a “Run a Lap Of Lane Cove Challenge.”
This month Andy Smith has put together another Challenge called The River Road Rollercoaster Challenge.
There are 3 options to choose from (see maps attached).

5.15 km River Road Route West To East

5.15km route (125m elevation) from the west boundary line (Penrose St above Blackman Park) to the East boundary line on River Rd (adjacent to Lithgow St).

5.15km route River Road Roller Coaster Route (125m elevation)  East To West

10.3km River Road Rollercoaster route (250m elevation) in both directions

Some Factors To Bear In Mind

Yes, there is plenty of elevation change on this route which, to be honest, is part of the appeal of this challenge!
There are plenty of busy intersections to cross so please be careful and only cross where and when it is safe to do so.

Note that there are some sections along the route that only have footpath on one side of the road so choose your route carefully:

  •  River Rd West from Bridge St to Austin St
    (northern side no path)
  • River Rd from Northwood Rd to Greenwich Hospital
    (southern side no path)
  • River Rd from Canberra Ave to Duntroon Ave
    (northern side no path)

Always take plenty of water.

Always let someone know you are doing this challenge and make sure they can find you on Find my iPhone or Life 360.

And the last and most obvious piece of advice is, be prepared for lots of up and downhill running!

Strava Group

If you are interested in taking on the Challenge we now have an “In The Cove Runners” Strava group where you can share your runs with like-minded locals:
