Australia Day 2022 in Lane Cove

This year Australia Day falls on a Wednesday.   All the activities below (unless otherwise stated are on Australia Day 26th January 2022).  Please note that due to the ever-evolving COVID19 situation, these events can be cancelled at short notice, so always check on the day that the events are still going as planned.

Australia Day Lane Cove Shops, Cafes, and Restaurants

Both Woolworths and Coles will be open on the Australia Day Public Holiday.  We will publish a list of coffee shops etc open on the public holiday very soon.

Start your Australia Day in Lane Cove at The Canopy as the Lane Cove Council welcomes Lane Cove’s newest Australian Citizens.

The ceremony will feature the Lane Cove Council Australia Day Ambassador Table Tennis Olympian Michelle Bromley.

Michelle was always destined to become a table tennis player with her father and mother falling in love at a tennis table club and her grandparents competing at a national level into their 80’s.

It became a family affair, with Bromley’s older brothers also taking to the paddle and Bromley following in their footsteps.

Growing up in the small NSW country town of Gulgong, when she was six Bromley would annoy her mother by hitting the ball against the kitchen wall at home for hours.  She represented Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021).

10.00 am – 3 pm Lane Cove Plaza – Lane Cove Rotary BBQ

You can also grab a BBQ snag from the famous Lane Cove Rotary BBQ and it is FREE yes FREE.

11.00 am – 1.00 pm Live Music in the Lane Cove Plaza with Traditional Graffiti

Enjoy the exciting roots music of this self-identified “gang of ex-pats” with a robust and eclectic range of songs and tunes.

11:00 am & 7:00 pm –  Australian Open

Grab a blanket, picnic food from one of our local eateries and watch the Australian Open Women’s Semi-Final on The Canopy Big Screen (starting from 11.00 am) and the Australian Open Men’s Semi-Final (starting from 7.00 pm).  You do not need to register for tickets.

Australia Day at The Diddy

Australia day goes off at the Longueville Sports Club (aka the Diddy).
Bookings are essential if you would like a table so get in early to secure your spot!  Over the last two years the Diddy have expanded and renovated their outdoor areas.   There is now outdoor seating available beside and on the top green and plenty of outdoor seating on the bottom green.  Book Here.

The villa is one of the main features of the Longy, is a brilliant outdoor option. Australia Day Snags

For those kicking back with a cold one, you might well be thinking BBQ, or even more specifically, Sausage Sizzle. Did you know that it is UN-Australian not to have a sausage on Australia Day?!

Well the crazy gang at Hummerston’s Gourmet Meats have just the banger for Australia Day – it is their famous Lamb, Cheese & Vegemite snags, pictured below.  They will be closed on Australia Day so pick them up before Australia Day.

If you are having a BBQ at home then let the guys at Porters Northwood help you out.  Of course to be really Australian you might want to sink a few Bob Hawke’s Lagers (they even have the Bob Hawke Underdog (a mid strenght beer) .  If you are having a big shindig If you need to stock up on drinks in advance of the day, Porter’s Liquor also stock a good range of grog, and they will also deliver your order, along with ice and glasses too if required!  Make sure you contact them before Australia Day to arrange delivery.
