ITC likes to stalk Instagram and Pinterest for creative Christmas food ideas. We take great pride in designing a Christmas Feasting table and while trawling through social media we found the ideal Fruit Dessert. It looks good and is healthy.
ITC found an Edible Fruit Christmas Wreath idea while checking out the Mumtastic website. We could not wait to make one. ITC tweaked Mumtastic’s ingredient list but followed Mumtastic’s instructions exactly (confession: two 15-year-old girls did this project and loved it).
We first published this article a few years ago when Lime Leaf Fruit Market was under Coles. We purchased the fruit from them on the day we made it. They are no longer there but Figtree Greengrocer is still an independent fruit and vegetable business in Lane Cove
- Foam Wreath 22cm Diameter – we found ours at Hot Dollar;
- Toothpicks;
- Strawberries – 2 punnets;
- Grapes – 800 grams;
- Blueberries – 1 punnet
- Cherries – 15
Mumtastic advises you can you use any fruits you like – but do not choose fruit that discolours.
Steps
We rinsed the fruit thoroughly and put all the different fruits into bowls.
We inserted toothpicks around the wreath (leave around 1 cm sticking up). Keep sticking them in until you have 25 toothpicks in the wreath.
Start sticking the fruit on the toothpicks. Use the strawberries first, then cherries, grapes and blueberries.
Continue adding more and more fruit until the foam ring is covered with fruit.
Keep the wreath refrigerated until you are ready to serve. We used some festive wrapping paper to display our finished wreath (see our cover photo).
You don’t have to stop at a fruit wreath. We also spotted this Rosemary Olive Wreath.
You can even make an ice cream wreath – but eat it quick. We spotted this on the Gelatissimo Instagram feed.
You can also bake a pavlova in the shape of a wreath and then use the same fruits as above.
