Welcome to our week in review.
Lane Cove Sport and Recreation Facility
Demolition works have started at the Lane Cove Golf Club to make way for the Lane Cove Sports and Recreation Facility (see our cover photo).
Two Businesses Broken Into
On 25th August 2023, both The Cake Man and Four Frogs Creperie were broken into. The Door Frames were removed for access. A cash register was taken from The Cake Man, and they have CCTV of three men entering the premises. Another business told ITC that about two weeks before, they noticed that someone had tried to access their premises using the same method but could not gain access.
Lane Cove Golf Course
The pro shop for the Lane Cove Golf Course is now on Gamma Road Lane Cove.
A roving reporter has asked us to let people know that due to the pro shop being moved to Gamma Road, there is a significant increase in parking, and the bend is like a blind bend. Please drive slowly around this area.
Major Podcast Series to Investigate Lane Cove Council’s $75 Million Sport and Recreation Facility
Journalist, media producer and Greenwich resident Hugh Liney is set to produce a major podcast series to thoroughly investigate the decision to spend $75 million on what he calls “a disastrously unnecessary demolition of an easily renewable venue”
Liney is referring to the demolition of the Lane Cove Country Club and the construction of the sports centre, necessitating the destruction of the Club and environmental features in the Gore Creek Valley.
Linney said, “The Council voted four in favour and four against to allow the GM to negotiate the construction contract, with Mayor Andrew Zbik giving the authority to his GM with his casting vote.
For the Podcast series Linney hopes to interview Council staff, and any whistleblowers and resident groups will be able to share their experiences, provide their reasons for and against the scheme
Hugh Liney is currently completing his feature documentary The Nature of Our Music. Some of Gore Creek Valley’s key natural features are included in the nature scenes.
He was Sydney’s first long-form podcaster completing a heritage series on historic rock’n’roll and lost music venues for Clover Moore’s City of Sydney in 2005/6. He worked for Australia’s major national and metropolitan newspapers for 20 years and has spent many decades in the Australian music and film industry.
Department of Fair Trading Building Works Rectification Order – Pottery Lane Building
As previously reported, Fair Trading has issued Lane Cove Council a Building Works Rectification Order for the Pottery Lane Building. Lane Cove Council has refused to provide information on the cost of rectification to ITC. In addition, they have released information on their website saying they will be looking into seeking recourse from WN Developments, a company that has lodged a voluntary wind-up application – meaning it has no assets. Read background information here.
Lane Cove Locals
Last weekend, Steve Prowse, Damian Beasley, and Frans Bisschop took out first place in the Oxfam 100km run! Congrats to these incredible runners for their determination and perseverance and to their support crew who carried them through! They completed the course in just over 17 hours. They competed against 287 teams and raised funds for Oxfam.

Traffic Changes – Westbound Falcon Street Off Ramp
The westbound Falcon Street off ramp from the Warringah Freeway was permanently closed to general traffic from 10pm on Friday 18 August 2023.
The closure is part of our work to build the Western Harbour Tunnel and creates a safe area to construct permanent tunnel infrastructure, as well as the temporary facilities needed to support the work.
Drivers exiting the Warringah Freeway to travel westbound will need to use an alternative route such as the Pacific Highway exit at North Sydney or the Miller Street exit at Cammeray.
Drivers exiting the Warringah Freeway to travel westbound will need to use an alternative route such as the Pacific Highway exit at North Sydney or the Miller Street exit at Cammeray.
Please note: The Falcon Street off ramp’s existing eastbound bus lane towards Military Road will remain unchanged, as well as the separate off ramp for general traffic travelling east.
Access for drivers entering the Warringah Freeway from Falcon Street will remain unchanged in both directions.
Once the Western Harbour Tunnel opens, there will be two northbound exits. Motorists travelling northbound will be able to take the off ramp to exit the tunnel to Falcon Street, or take the next exit to continue on Warringah Freeway northbound
Have Your Say – Cats in Lane Cove Bushland
At the Lane Cove Council’s July 2023 Meeting, a proposal was put to the Councillors by Council staff that Lane Cove Bushland areas become Wildlife Protection Zones. In Wildlife Protection Zones, domestic and feral cats can be trapped and removed from the zones. Lane Cove Council wants to implement this system and return cats to their owners.
You only have a little over a week to have your say. Details here.
