On Wednesday, September 3rd, 2024, In the Cove held a Meet the Candidates Forum for West Ward Candidates standing for election in the 2024 NSW Local Government Elections. The poll will be held on September 14th, 2024.

We have compiled an article that provides information for voters and the candidates running in each ward here.

Below are In the Cove’s Founder Jacky Barker’s introductory comments on the Forum.

Meet The Candidates West Ward Lane Cove Council Area Zoom Forum Recording – Introductory Remarks

We will be starting soon, but just a warning that we will be recording tonight’s forum, so you may want to turn off your camera if you don’t want your face recorded.

In the spirit of reconciliation, I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Cameraygal people.  I pay our respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Thank you for watching tonight’s, Meet the Candidates Forum for West Ward.

ITC has covered numerous elections over the last 12 years, and we have to say that this election was unique in the absence of Liberal Party candidates.

We also have less independents running this time around.   So tonight is going to be, for want of a better word, intimate, with only two candidates speaking tonight.

The candidates will be speaking in the following order:

Rochelle Flood (Greens)

Katie Little (ALP)

We used a very advanced system of choosing the speaking order – we used a hat and some strips of paper.

All candidates were invited to the forum, and we just asked the lead candidate. You can see the rest of their team in our Meet the Candidates article on the front page of the website, and we will put a link in the chat.

The other west ward candidate is Scott Bennison – Scott told me at 11.39 am today that he could not make tonight and to provide his apologies .

Itis such a shame as Scott could not make our meet the candidates forum at the last local council election.  However to be fair I offered to Scott to meet with him and record him and then put the same questions to him that you ask tonight – I have not heard back from him about that offer.

Each candidate has TEN minutes. After the end of the candidates’ presentations, I will ask your questions to the candidates. Please put your questions in the chat. Each audience member can ask one question, and if we have time, we will give people a chance to ask a second question.

Please do not write anything in the chat that is offensive or derogatory or defamatory – you will be removed from the chat.

Do NOT answer any questions on behalf of the candidate.

Do not make any comments – just leave a question – it makes it easier for us to moderate.

The number one rule for tonight is Respect. Please do not make any personal attacks via the chat about a candidate or another person. Putting your hand up for public office can be daunting at any time.

People who break our moderation rules will be expelled from the chat. We will issue warnings.

Please put your questions to both candidates.
