Greenwich Point Wharf Re-Opens
Ferry services to and from Greenwich Point resumed last Friday, 13 December 2024, after being temporarily closed in April 2024.
The closure allowed for upgrades to the wharf’s safety and accessibility features.
Most of the new and upgraded accessibility features are complete. Features include:
- jetty and covered pontoon
- gangway connecting to the jetty
- covered waiting area, passenger seating and weather protection
- bicycle hoops
- lighting and security.
The final piece of the accessibility puzzle is the newly constructed lift. It is set to be opened in early 2025, with the project team and Ausgrid in the final stages of transferring the power from old to new infrastructure.
For those with accessibility needs, the existing ramp to the wharf via Lower Serpentine Road, has been reopened.
See here for project details and community updates from Transport for NSW.

Lane Cove In The News
Local Christine Mayberry’s story is in an article written by Women’s Agenda on a study from the University of Sydney, recently published in a new book The Multigenerational Workforce: Managing Age and Gender at Work, found much of the dialogue around diversity and inclusion in workplaces fails to include conversations about age inclusivity. You can read the article here.
Development Approved in St Leonards at Old Telstra Exchange Site
More than 280 new homes at the Telstra Exchange site in St Leonards have been approved in a concurrent rezoning and assessment process.
The State Significant Development proposal worth $209 million will include 272 build-to-rent homes, 10 affordable housing units, 84 serviced apartments and retail stores, all within a 43-storey mixed-use tower.
The streamlined planning process where a site is concurrently rezoned and assessed is the same model that will be offered to proponents who opt-in to the soon-to-be established Housing Delivery Authority.
The site was rezoned under the Crows Nest Transport Oriented Development Accelerated Precinct and the assessment has been approved a short time later.
The proposed development will create 250 construction jobs and a further 40 ongoing jobs, with the existing Telstra Exchange building to be integrated into the new build.
Delivering well-located homes close to transport, jobs and community amenity has been a priority for the Minns Government, as well as finding new and innovative ways to speed up planning processes.
To support the community with more homes, this project will raise up to $9.8 million in development contributions for Lane Cove Council to improve local infrastructure such as parks, community facilities and local roads.
A further $3 million will be provided by NSW Housing and Productivity Contribution for State and regional infrastructure projects such as roads, parks, hospitals and schools.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:
“This project is a great example of an innovative infill development proposal which will provide nearly 290 new homes plus new short-term accommodation within six kilometres of the Sydney CBD.
“The Telstra Exchange site will retain its operations at this location while enabling redevelopment over its existing building for much needed new homes.
“This rezoning and assessment pathway is similar to what proponents will have access to when working with the Housing Delivery Authority, this will speed up the delivery of good projects.
“This project will be backed with $12.8 million in combined developer contributions to both Lane Cove Council and the NSW Government Housing and Productivity fund. This contribution will help deliver new and improved public infrastructure for the St Leonards community.”

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios Opening Night
On 11 December 2024, Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios hosted an exciting exhibition opening night, bringing together art, music, and fine wine for a memorable community event. Guests enjoyed a vibrant evening accompanied by the sounds of Sydney DJ Vincent Sebastian and wines crafted by Nadja Wallington of ChaLou Wines, recently named Young Winemaker of the Year.
The evening showcased three compelling exhibitions, each offering a unique artistic experience:
Fun. Unlimited.
Abby Chambers (until 21 December)
This large-scale drawing installation, created entirely onsite, takes over the gallery wall with its intricate and immersive design.
The Night Passes
Fiona Davies (until 21 December)
Exploring themes of transition and temporality, Fiona Davies’ works evoke the liminal spaces of nocturnal hospital corridors and deserted roads. The layered sounds and sensations of these unsettling yet reflective environments are captured through her unique artistic process, blending observation with immersive, embodied listening.
Conversations in Mark Making
Gary Gregg & Daniela Minns (until 21 December)
This father-daughter duo presents a series of abstract paintings and experimental works on paper. Through their collaborative process, each piece evolves as they exchange and build upon one another’s marks, resulting in artworks that are as much about their dialogue and shared artistic journey as the marks themselves.
These exhibitions are open to the public until 21 December 2024. Don’t miss the chance to experience this remarkable collection of art and creativity at Gallery Lane Cove!
The Lane Cove Fun Run Delivers 10% of Proceeds to Sydney Community Services
The Lane Cove Fun Run has once again demonstrated its commitment to giving back to the community by donating 10% of its proceeds to Sydney Community Services at their recent Christmas party. These funds will help support independent living at home for older residents and people living with disabilities in the Lane Cove and Hunters Hill areas. (see our cover photo).
The Lane Cove Fun Run is a volunteer-led event organised by the Lane Cove Public School P&C. By participating in the run, the community not only supports an enjoyable and inclusive event but also contributes to vital initiatives, including additional teachers and learning support at the school, and funding for local organisations like Sydney Community Services.
