Welcome to our week in review.
Australia Day In The Cove
Australia Day was marked in Lane Cove with a busy day around the plaza and The Canopy.
A citizenship ceremony was conducted at The Canopy, which saw 86 people be officially welcomed as Australian citizens. They were treated to an address by Lane Cove’s Australia Day Ambassador, Mr Nicholas Gleeson, an Adventurer / Motivational Speaker / Paralympian – Athletics.

Following the ceremony, craft, music and face painting were in the plaza, with a BBQ put on by The Rotary Club of Lane Cove.
To round out the day, locals were treated to chilled-out music at The Canopy by Plastic Soul – a perfect evening for a picnic.
Two residents in the Lane Cove Council area received an Australia Day honour. Congratulations to Penelope Gerstle and James Rodgers. Read about their achievements here.
Commuters and Students Urged To Review Bus Changes
Bus passengers are being urged to check for route changes and plan their trips, especially as schools return for the year.
Services across Sydney – but particularly in the North West and Inner West of the city – have had changes to their routes and timetables in a shake-up designed to improve frequency and reliability, as well as provide passengers with better connections to the broader transport network.
Transport for NSW Coordinator-General Howard Collins said passengers should look out for tweaks to both their routes and timetables as the summer holidays draw to a close and families prepare for the new school year (term 1 commenced Tuesday 28 January for some schools).
“We don’t want students being late to their first day back so we’re reminding students and mums, dads and carers, please check your routes as they may have changed,” Mr Collins said.
“Just before and over the holiday period, there were a number of bus timetable changes designed to make Greater Sydney more connected.
“At the same time a number of services across the Northern Beaches and lower North Shore have had their timetables tweaked to improve on-time running and reflect changing traffic patterns, while minor timetable changes will also be made to services in the Eastern Suburbs to improve capacity and on-time running, largely around the Randwick area.
Bus impacted in the North Region include the 288 and 292

Lane Cove Choristers Looking For Members & Accompanist
The Lane Cove Choristers (LCC) are a small, friendly choir of senior ladies (55+), and are currently looking for new members.
Members feel that singing keeps them ‘young’ and gives them pleasure as they bring joy and entertainment to other seniors in the community. Their repertoire ranges from classical to modern, folk, spirituals, musicals and golden oldies, with comedy and audience participation too. A volunteer conductor and an accompanist are both experienced professionals.
They share their passion at various events, including at aged care and dementia facilities, hospitals, retirement villages and Council events.
LCC is ready to welcome any lady (over 55yrs) who likes to sing – no audition needed. They need new members, especially altos!
Rehearsals and concerts are held in the daytime, always preferred by seniors. Rehearsals every Tuesday at the Gallery Lane Cove, 1.00pm – 3.30pm.
The Lane Cove Choristers are also URGENTLY seeking a Pianist, as their long term accompanist is sick and unable to perform in the next few months. They are about to go into rehearsal for a concert for the Seniors Festival on March 24. If you, or someone you know is an accompanist, and are available to rehearse every Tuesday afternoon from Tuesday 4 February, AND play for the concert, please get in touch with the President (details below). This is usually a volunteer position but LCC can pay a donation in the current situation.
To find out more about joining the Lane Cove Choristers, or to express interest in being an accompanist, contact:

Have Your Say – Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan
Lane Cove Council is currently developing a new Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) which helps to identify actions to provide convenient access and mobility in and around our community. In addition to identifying strategic outcomes, the PAMP will include a works schedule that can be incorporated into other infrastructure plans for clear direction on how to deliver on the commitment to a more accessible community.
The aim of a PAMP is to create a safe, accessible, and connected network to cater for the needs of all pedestrian groups in the community including elderly people and people with mobility or visual impairments.
Lane Cove Council is now inviting the community to a survey for the development of the Draft Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan 2024-25
To have your say on the Draft Plan you can provide us your feedback with the survey linked below.

Submissions will be received by the Council until Sunday, 19 February 2025.
Have Your Say – Small Watercraft Strategy Willoughby City Council
Have your say on water access and small watercraft storage in foreshore parks and reserves.
Willoughby City Council has many foreshore parks and reserves along Middle Harbour and Lane Cove River which provide water access for recreational purposes. Council is seeking community input to develop a Small Watercraft Strategy.
The Strategy seeks to encourage recreation in small watercraft while balancing the needs of the environment and other park and reserve users. Small watercraft include vessels such as dinghies, kayaks, canoes, paddle/sail boards or similar.
Council would like to hear how you currently use the foreshore parks and reserves as well as any ideas or suggestions how water access and small watercraft storage in these foreshore parks and reserves could be improved or better managed into the future.
If you own an existing small watercraft being stored in a foreshore park or reserve, you must register your watercraft with Council. Registration is contained within the online survey below.
The Small Watercraft Strategy is being prepared in response to Council resolution on 27 November 2023. The Strategy will help Council to manage foreshore parks and other open spaces in an effective and equitable manner for community benefit, recreation and enjoyment. To have your say complete this online survey here.
