Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios March/April 2025 Exhibitions and Workshops

Patricia Wilson-Adams, Pleaching, blackbean seed pods, copper and hardwood, 2021

In March/April 2025, Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios will celebrate the opening of two vibrant exhibitions: LUCENT: women treading lightly and Bone Drift: Wax, Bone and Thread.

Both exhibitions run from 12 March to 5 April 2025. Entry to each exhibition is free.

LUCENT: women treading lightly

12 March – 5 April 2025

Artists: Chris Byrnes, Helen Dunkerley, Penny Dunstan, Emma Florence-May, Annemarie Murland, Dan Nelson, Mandy Robinson, Niomi Sands, Belinda Street, Linda Swinfield, Lezlie Tilley, Patricia Wilson-Adam

This exhibition aims to spotlight women artists who are not easily heard above the clamour of “immediacy art.”

These women work in the regions, live on the periphery, and have very little profile despite having dedicated their lives with passion and integrity to art. They are women, old and young, mothers, partners, professionals and artists, all caught up with the vicissitudes of busy lives but in no way diminutive intellectually or aspirationally.

This exhibition highlights the art of a group of women who “treads lightly” in that the works exhibit a profound quietness and a sense of contemplation. They also have integrity manifested in attention to technique, the free expression of ideas, and the use of a wide range of materials.

Women artists almost never see themselves as heroic or aggrandised. Instead, they work with their truths embedded in the experiential and/or their hard-fought-for beliefs and understandings. They fly under the radar. Here, the artists are engaging with a range of concerns and are able to tell their unique stories, letting the light shine in.

Bone Drift: Wax, Bone and Thread

This exhibition explores ‘non-normative’ bones and (dis)ability identities over time.

Through a series of workshops, artist, researcher, and creative producer Lizzie Crouch has guided participants to experience the materiality of bone and the processes involved in making bone china clay hands-on.

Through rituals of making, the personal objects created in the workshops reflect participants’ bodies and experiences, representing a collective exploration of what it means to live within an evolving (dis)abled identity – now, in the past or into the future.

Lizzie Crouch is a Creative Producer who specialises in bringing together people with diverse expertise, backgrounds and lived experiences to create innovative, inclusive spaces. She works at the intersection of the arts, science, and technology.

Lizzie’s current research focuses on advancing creative production and socially inclusive processes for art-science programs. She is also exploring the role of creative producing in fostering inclusive experiences as a PhD candidate at UNSW, Sydney. Lizzie has held numerous roles, including Senior Coordinator of Engagement for SensiLab, Monash University, and produced major art-science seasons for the Science Gallery network. Her work has been recognized by the World Health Organization and featured in publications like New Scientist.
