Law Week NSW is an annual festival that is all about creating greater access to justice for Australians. Law Week will be held from 19 to 25 May 2025.
NSW Law Week is a program of community events and activities designed to help you understand your rights, the law, the legal system and the legal profession. Courts, community legal centres, law firms, solicitors, barristers, police, community services, education institutions and libraries are all encouraged to get involved.

Tenancy and Rental Rights
More people rent in Lane Cove than own a house or apartment in Lane Cove. Knowing your rights is an important issue.
The City of Ryde Library is holding a seminar – Infocus: Tenancy and rental rights.
A legal expert from the Northern Sydney Area Tenants’ Service will explain what you can and can’t do as a tenant and also what the landlord and real estate agent’s rights and obligations are.
During the session, you’ll learn about:
- the basics of a lease agreement including notice periods
- your rights as a tenant including repairs, privacy/access, rent reductions and compensation
- your obligations as a tenant
- how to deal with a bond dispute and what ‘fair wear and tear’ means
- the basics of the NCAT Tribunal.
