Imagine this, you snag the perfect parking spot at The Canopy, Lane Cove Market Square or any Lane Cove Council Carpark.
You run around Lane Cove doing the groceries, getting a prescription filled at the chemist, pop into the shop to buy a present, pick up a parcel from the Lane Cove Post Office, buy a lotto ticket from the Lane Cove Newsagency and then, exhausted, you sit down and grab a cup of coffee.
After your coffee, you pick up your groceries and then head to your carpark. On the way to the car park, you bump into someone you know and have a great chat; you might even grab another cup of coffee with them.
There is no way you could have possibly just spent three hours in Lane Cove.
You leave the car park and exit through the less than three-hour lane and head home.
You get home and think to yourself, Gosh, was I in Lane Cove for longer than three hours, and should I have checked to see if I had to pay for parking?
You might also consider visiting www.lanecoveparking.com.au to check if you stayed longer than three hours and pay online. You have good intentions, but you never get around to it. Some weeks later, you receive a fine notice in the mail from Lane Cove Council, as you should have paid for parking.
Does this sound familiar? How the heck do you keep track of those pesky three hours?
Additional Payment Option For Council Carparks
Lane Cove Council has introduced a new parking payment option, EasyPark. It is now available at Lane Cove’s four main car parks: The Canopy, Little Street, St Leonards Central, and Lane Cove Market Square.
The app allows drivers to “set and forget” by automatically tracking entry, exit and payment with receipts sent via email.
The app operates independently of Lane Cove Council, and all other existing payment methods remain in place. You do not have to use EasyPark as your payment option.
How Do You Use EasyPark?
To use EasyPark, download the app, register your details, and activate CameraPark (you will be required to enter your car’s registration details).
You then load up your credit card details or use Apple Pay (or your phone’s google pay).
Upon entry to a Lane Cove Council carpark, you will receive a push notification confirming that a session has started.
On Exit: Drive to the boom gate (at Little Street) or exit the car park at Lane Cove Market Square, St Leonards Central, or The Canopy. You will receive a push notification confirming the end of the session, with the transaction recorded in the app and a receipt emailed to you.
If you stay more than three hours, you will be charged, and transaction fees apply. Do not park on P1 at The Canopy, as you are only allowed to use that level if you are parking for less than one hour.
The transaction fees currently listed on EasyPark’s website are as follows (and they could be a bit of a sting if you stay over four hours in a carpark):
- Service fee: 11.5% of the parking fee.
- Monthly subscription: $1.99 AUD/month with 2.25% service fee.
If you don’t stay the three hours, you won’t be charged.
Make sure you enable push notifications in the app and set some time limits as to when you want to be notified that your three hours is nearly up.
Do Other Councils use EasyPark?
Yes, according to the EasyPark website, around 70 other councils use the app. The following is noted on the website:
“EasyPark is Australia’s most popular pay via phone app with more than 4 million Australian users, and it is the only pay via phone app with coverage in all Australian states!”

In the Cove, Will Test It Out and Tell You How It Goes
As long-time readers of In the Cove will attest, ITC knows all about Lane Cove’s parking stations. We were there, standing cheek to cheek (or car to car) when the boom gates used to malfunction at Lane Cove Market Square. That was the boomgategate era.
We have been writing articles about tips to avoid parking fines in Lane Cove Council car parking stations for years – read our article here.
Our biggest tip is always to drive slowly through the payment lane and check to see if you owe money. If you do, you may want to pay at the exit gate. Alternatively, you can visit www.lanecoveparking.com.au or use EasyPark.
We will be testing out the new payment system and will let you know how it goes.
