Lane Cove Community Citizenship & Neighbour Day Awards
The Lane Cove Citizenship Awards are an annual initiative run by Lane Cove Council to recognise residents, volunteers, community groups and local businesses who make a meaningful contribution to life in Lane Cove. The awards celebrate people who go above and beyond to strengthen the community through leadership, service, creativity, sustainability, sport and inclusion.
Nominations are open for the 2026 Lane Cove Citizenship Awards and close on Thursday 19 March 2026. Community members are encouraged to nominate individuals or organisations whose efforts have had a positive impact on Lane Cove, regardless of whether their contribution is large or small. Many past recipients have been quiet achievers whose dedication might otherwise go unrecognised.
Award recipients will be honoured at the Citizenship Awards Presentation Evening, to be held on Wednesday 17 June 2026, where Council will formally acknowledge the achievements of this year’s finalists and winners.
The Citizenship Awards include a wide range of categories, from Citizen of the Year and Young Achiever to awards recognising community service, sustainability, leadership, business excellence and neighbourly spirit.
Full details on categories, eligibility and how to nominate are available here.

New year… New hobbies?
Last week The Washington Post published a list of 12 “of-the-moment” hobbies to try in 2026.
If you’re looking for a fun way to spend less time scrolling and more time doing then you may want to take up some of their suggested hobbies and if you are a member of Sydney Library of Things you don’t have to go out and buy stuff to start a hobby.
At The Sydney Library of Things, you can borrow gear to help you try something new (or revive an old favourite) — without the clutter, cost, or commitment.
Some Hobbies to try this year:
- Restoration (fixing up old things) – check out the range of tools
- Sewing – borrow a sewing machine
- Themed gardening (succulents, hot peppers, carnivorous plants, chaos gardening…) – from spades to wheelbarrows. Browse the Lane Cove Seed Library to get you started.
- Hyper-focus in the kitchen (focaccia, chocolates, hasselback everything…) – bread makers
- Cook your way through a cookbook – pasta maker, stand mixers etc
If you want to know more about the trending hobbies including Befriending a Crow click here (paywalled).

Crime, Accidents, Incidents
It has been a rainy week
Thursday 8th January 2026 – an accident between a bike and a car on Epping Road near Tantallon Oval.
Monday 12th January 2026 – there was an accident on Northwood Road near Jack and Co.
An ITC roving reporter sent us this message on Monday 12 January 2026
“Hi, please can you put a post to make people aware the Mowbray Road slippery bend is really bad today. I’ve just skid (luckily ok) and watched 5 other cars in 3 mins while pulled over to report it. I’ve reported it to NSW transport, the local police and the council. I would hate for there to be an accident. Thank you!”
The roving reporter told us they were travelling below the speed limit.
