Lane Cove restaurant Seven Spices has cemented its place among Australia’s best, taking home an Australian Good Food Guide (AGFG) Chef Hat for the second year in a row.
Seven Spices is in the “Bakers Delight” arcade on the second floor (access via lift and stairs). There is also an entrance near The Cake Man (park in The Canopy).
Seven Spices serves modern Indian food, crafted from time-honoured culinary traditions and innovative techniques, resulting in vibrant and delicious dishes.
The head chef is Srinivas Velpuri.
What is a Chef Hat?
The AGFG announced the winners in late January 2026.
It’s not easy to obtain an AGFG Chef Hat.
The restaurant does not know when it will be judged, as the judge is anonymous and the hat is awarded only to restaurants that consistently deliver good food.
AGFG note on their website:
“Our objective is to reward exceptional chefs, not chefs that are exceptional at adhering to set guidelines, explains AGFG’s Managing Director. AGFG has always adhered to a mute ‘Michelin’ model of rating. This practice remains today, with the company declining to particularise the precise award criteria. The company directors maintain that the Australian Good Food Guide is not an advisory or training institute, asserting that the approach avoids standardisation and encourages creativity.”
162 Restaurants Awarded Chef Hat
In Sydney, 162 restaurants were awarded a chef’s hat. Only three Indian restaurants were among the recipients.
Seven Spices has built a strong following well beyond Lane Cove. Their focus has always been on fresh ingredients, strong flavours and making people feel welcome.
Srinivas told ITC that their best-selling dishes are:
- Tandoori Lamb Chops
- Purane Delhi Style Butter Chicken
- Ghewar (for dessert)
Srinivas paid tribute to the entire Seven Spices team, noting that the award was shared by everyone involved, from the kitchen to the front of house.
While proud of the achievement, the team isn’t slowing down; a new menu will be released soon.
