A group of Lane Cove Football Club players are adding an extra challenge to their preseason training as they take part in Mob on the Move.
The club’s Women’s Over 30s 1 team will be taking part in Mob on the Move, a month-long fundraising initiative to support Redfern Jarjum College, a small primary school helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children overcome barriers to education.
The team will collectively cover an additional 1,000 kilometres between 15 February and 15 March 2026 through running, walking, and training sessions, while raising funds and awareness for the school. The team also wants to deepen their understanding of First Nations culture
The initiative is particularly meaningful for the team, as one of their players, Katherine Zerounian, is the Principal of Redfern Jarjum College.
Katherine is also a Lane Cove Local who has been playing with the club for two years.
Katherine told ITC:
“Over my 25 years of playing football, I’ve played for a number of different clubs, but there is something special about playing locally.
It means a great deal to have my teammates supporting Mob on the Move.
Their encouragement and willingness to get behind the campaign remind me that we’re not just a team on the field, we’re a community that shows up for each other and for the causes that matter.
Having their support has helped me to amplify the message and give ever greater meaning to what we are trying to achieve”.
A Team Building on a Championship Season
The fundraising challenge follows an outstanding 2025 season for the Lane Cove Football Club side.
The team were crowned Premiers and Grand Final winners of Division 2 Women’s Over 30s, and also collected several individual honours, including the Golden Boot, Golden Glove and Team of the Season awards.
Now, as preseason training ramps up, the players are turning their energy toward making a difference off the field.
Supporting a Unique School With Mob on The Move
Founded by the Jesuits in 2013, Redfern Jarjum College is a culturally safe primary school supporting 28 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Many students arrive after struggling in mainstream schools due to complex behavioural, social and educational challenges, often linked to trauma.
The school provides a holistic wraparound education model designed to give students the stability and support they need to thrive. This includes:
- Door-to-door transport to ensure students arrive ready to learn
- Nutritious breakfast and lunch prepared daily
- Regular paediatric medical check-ups
- Speech therapy, vision, hearing and dental screenings
- School uniforms
- Cultural programs including Indigenous dance
- The results have been remarkable. Redfern Jarjum College maintains average daily attendance above 90%, significantly higher than the typical attendance rate for this cohort.
The school’s Gadigal motto is “Gili” — meaning “shine”.
How Lane Cove Can Help Mob on the Move?
While government funding supports part of the school’s operations, community fundraising is essential to maintain and expand these programs.
Through Mob on the Move, the Lane Cove team is inviting the community to sponsor their 1,000km challenge with tax-deductible donations to Redfern Jarjum College.
So come on Lane Cove, let’s get behind the girls and help them reach their fundraising goal of $5000.
