From exhibitions to hands-on creativity: what’s happening at Gallery Lane Cove this April

This April, Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is bringing together both sides of creativity — showcasing local artists and inviting the community to get involved themselves.

Featured artwork: “Secret Garden” by Camellia Milner. Winner of the Guy Warren Prize 2025.

A celebration of local creativity

Kicking things off is artXtra! 2026, the annual exhibition from the Lane Cove Art Society.

Running from 25 March to 11 April, this exhibition offers a snapshot of the incredible talent within our local community — with works spanning painting, printmaking and drawing.

It’s a chance to see the diversity of styles and stories coming out of Lane Cove — and if something catches your eye, all works are available to purchase.

A different kind of exhibition

From mid-April, the gallery shifts into something more tactile and textural.

echoes and silences, presented by the Untethered Fibre Artists, explores fibre as a contemporary art form — using stitch, fabric, print and found materials to create layered, expressive works.

It’s the kind of exhibition that invites you to slow down, look closer and experience art in a completely different way.

More than a gallery — a place to create and grow

For my own family, Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios has been an invaluable part of our lives.

I’ve enrolled my children in countless programs over the years — from after-school classes to school holiday workshops — and every time I’ve seen them thrive in this creative environment.

Whether it’s ceramics, painting or printmaking, the variety of classes has allowed them to explore new artistic skills, express themselves and grow in confidence. It’s one of those places in Lane Cove that quietly gives kids the space to just be creative — and that’s something pretty special.

Kids school holiday program

The Autumn school holiday program offers flexible options for families, including: guided art, ceramics and sewing classes.

  • full-day creative camps
  • before and after care options

Perfect for kids who love making, building and exploring their creativity.

Term 2 after-school classes

After-school classes continue into Term 2, with programs in: Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Textiles

Adult classes and workshops

Adults can get involved too, with a full Term 2 program including painting, ceramics, collage and more.

One standout workshop this season is: Flowering Gum Thread Painting with artist Jack Buckley

This hands-on embroidery workshop teaches thread painting techniques, how to create depth and detail and how to work with Australian native inspiration. It’s also a beautiful idea for a Mother’s Day experience or gift.

Take creativity outdoors

As part of World Earth Month, the gallery is also bringing creativity into the heart of Lane Cove.

First Fridays – Lane Cove Plaza (10 April) is a hands-on workshop invites participants to create their own printed bookmark using natural materials, inspired by textile art techniques like layering, texture and repetition.
