Tucked beneath the Lane Cove Aquatic Centre, the Synergy Youth Centre is a space many locals have heard about but not everyone fully realises what’s on offer.
We recently toured the centre with youth worker Erin and got a firsthand look at how it supports local young people, from casual drop-in sessions to structured school holiday programs.
And with Youth Week starting this week, they’re hosting a major free event that’s set to draw a crowd.
Free laser tag, BBQ and more this Friday
The highlight of the week is the “Game On: Dare to Play” Youth Week event, taking place at Pottery Green Oval.

School holiday programs
Synergy runs a packed schedule of school holiday activities designed to keep young people engaged and trying new things.
“We’ve had a lot of exciting events these holidays including a drumming circle, an egg drop experiment and creative writing workshops. Plus there’s more to come this week with bingo, a second-hand fashion workshop and a touch footy session,” Erin said.
More than just a youth centre
“It’s a space where young people can come and just hang out — play games, shoot hoops, chat with friends — whatever they feel like doing,” Erin said.
A safe “middle ground” for young people
“It’s a really good middle ground; they’re not at school and they’re not completely on their own,” Erin said.
“They’ve got that independence, but in a safe, supervised space.”
“It also gives young people the chance to talk to someone who isn’t a parent or teacher if they need support,” Erin said.
Term Time Programs
During the school term the Synergy team have regular weekly programs that operate on a drop in basis. The offer everything from casual basketball, craft, music, life skills workshops and the very popular Friday Feeds session. The Term 2 2026 program is below.
