ANZAC Day In Lane Cove
ANZAC Day is this Saturday 25 April.
The main community commemoration will be held at The Canopy, beginning at 7.15 am. The service will see veterans and their families gather with representatives from local schools and community groups to honour the servicemen and women who have served for Australia in conflicts since the First World War.
This service will include reflections from guest speakers and a wreath laying ceremony.
There are always a lot of questions about what happens in Lane Cove on ANZAC Day, from commemorative services to which retail and hospitality businesses are allowed to be open.
Read our guide for the details.
Agenda For Lane Cove Council’s April Meeting

There are also items relating to synthetic turf management, enhancing urban biodiversity, adjustments to the food waste program roll-out, as well as regular reports from Council operations.
Community Voices Heard at Mars Road Data Centre Site Visit
Last Friday, residents gathered at 12 Mars Road, Lane Cove West with Mayor Councillor Merri Southwood, Councillor Rochelle Flood, and NSW Greens MLC Abigail Boyd to voice concerns about Goodman’s proposed “Project Mars” data centre.
The mood was anxious. “It’s going to be too noisy… the dust, the traffic — and where’s the water coming from?” said one resident. NSW Greens MLC Abigail Boyd pointed to a bigger issue: “The real issue is the secrecy.”
One attendee had been door-knocking the day before and reported that two households near the site assumed the nearby Interflow works meant the data centre was already approved. “Please talk to your neighbours,” they urged.
We’ve collated our coverage of data centres to make it easier to see the background as well as the most up to date proposals. Read it all here.
The Canopy Was Dancing In the Shadows Of Motown
On Saturday 18 April, toes were tapping, feet were shuffling and voices were singing along to the music of Motown. Dancing In The Shadows of Motown lit up the stage with their band and singers, covering so many classics from the Motown era. Check out some of our photos below.
The Canopy will be packed again this Saturday for a double-header concert. Details in Upcoming Events below.

They Dreamed. They Dared. They Played Laser Tag.
Synergy Youth Centre hosted its Youth Week 2026 event on Friday 17 April at the centre and Pottery Green.
Attendees caught up with friends, participated in craft activities, fuelled themselves with a BBQ, connected with local organisations to learn how they support youth, and had a whole lot of fun playing laser tag on Pottery Green.
Synergy operates as a safe drop in space for older youths to gather, play and learn. They offer term time and school holiday schedules.
In The Cove recently visited Synergy to find out more about what they do. See what we learnt here.
Fox Baiting Underway At Berry Island & Balls Head Reserves
North Sydney Council’s 1080 fox baiting program is now underway in nearby bushland reserves.
These baits pose a serious risk to dogs and as such dogs cannot be in these areas during the specified dates.
Even a small exposure can be fatal, and it’s not just from eating bait. Secondary poisoning from wildlife is also a real danger.
See our article for more details and important advice from Advanced Vet Care Lane Cove including what to look out for with your dog.
Dorritt Street Roadworks Complete
Roadworks at the intersection of Dorritt and Phoenix Streets have been completed.

Dorritt Street reopened on Friday 17 April.
The works included the installation of a new pedestrian crossing across Dorritt St at Phoenix St and a speed bump further up Dorritt St between Phoenix St and Rothwell Cres.

Local Student’s Determination Boosting Local Biodiversity
There’s some exciting news for our local waterways with a new living seawall installed at Greenwich Point Wharf.
The new seawall is thanks to the determination of one very impressive young resident, Bella. She saw a need, knew of a solution, rallied the community and collected over 700 signatures to support the project.
All her efforts paid off with Council giving the green light and providing funding through the Sustainability Levy.
So what is a living seawall? Instead of flat concrete, the structure is made of textured panels that create nooks and crevices for marine life to settle and grow, helping boost biodiversity along the harbour. The concept has already proven successful at Burns Bay, and this new installation is expected to deliver similar benefits. Even better, Bella has been involved in the design process, and there’ll be signage on site so locals can learn more next time they’re down by the water.
Congratulations and thank you Bella!

Recent Measles Exposure Sites In Crows Nest
Health officials are again warning the community to be aware of the signs and symptoms of measles as cases rise in multiple states across the country, including NSW. In addition, they have renewed their advice for people to keep up to date with vaccinations against the disease.
There were two exposure sites in Crows Nest recently.
Woolworths Crows Nest
Exposure times: Sunday, 12 April 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Monitor until: Thursday, 30 April
Only Coffee Project
Shop 2, 118 Willoughby Rd, Crows Nest
Exposure times: Sunday, 12 April 2:30pm – 3:00pm
Monitor until: Thursday, 30 April
People who attended the locations during the dates and times specified are urged to:
Monitor for symptoms for 18 days after visiting the location. Symptoms to watch for include fever, runny nose, sore eyes and a cough. This is usually followed 3 to 4 days later by a red, blotchy rash that starts on the head and face then spreads down the body.
Seek medical care if symptoms develop. Please call ahead to your doctor or health service, including an Emergency Department, to let them know that you may have come into contact with measles and wear a face mask when you go. More information about measles and what to do if you were at an exposure site is available from NSW Health.

Upgrades To Mowbray Road / Centennial Avenue Traffic Signals Not Proceeding
Locals will be disappointed to hear that long hoped for upgrades to a busy intersection will not come to fruition.
Lane Cove Council has confirmed it will not proceed with planned upgrades to the traffic signals at the Mowbray Road, Centennial Avenue and Greenlands Road intersection, after the project was deemed too costly for the limited benefits it would deliver.

Investigations into improving the intersection have been underway since 2014, with multiple design revisions made in response to feedback from Transport for NSW. However, the latest requirements, including road widening, property acquisition and relocation of utilities, would see significant increases in cost.
A detailed review found the project would be prohibitively expensive, and Transport for NSW advised it was no longer cost-effective given the relatively small improvement to traffic flow.
Food Waste Program Already Making A Difference

It’s been four weeks since collections commenced for the new food waste program and Lane Cove Council has released some early results.
They state that “over 42,520kg of food waste has been diverted from landfill and turned into nutrient-rich soil improver that is sold back to the agricultural industry to grow more food, while also creating renewable energy as part of the process.”
There’s plenty of information on Council’s website about the program including FAQs and instructional videos.
New Trampolines Coming To The Canopy

Trampolines at The Canopy have been out of action for almost 6 months. We’ve been contacted by ITC readers over that time and can now provide an update from Lane Cove Council.
New trampolines will be installed between 4 – 16 May 2026. No doubt there will be some very excited kids and carers once they reopen.

Big Changes Coming To The Warringah Freeway
Transport for NSW is urging motorists who use the Warringah Freeway to familiarise themselves with upcoming changes as major updates to the freeway progress.
Final dates for the changes to take effect have not been announced, however the project site provides detailed descriptions, graphics and videos of how the changes will work.
Commuters who travel from Lane Cove to the CBD will be interested to see the opening of the new dedicated southbound bus lane along the Warringah Freeway. The new bus lane is expected to create a smoother ride for commuters with fewer lane changes that compete with other motorists.
Other key changes include:
- removal of the slip lane to Sydney Harbour Bridge
- removal of access to Sydney Harbour Bridge from Ernest Street
- change to ramp arrangements at Falcon Street/Military Road and removal of access to Cahill Expressway
- changes for overheight vehicles

Aged 75+? Get Your Free RSV Vaccine From Mid-May
Older Australians will soon have free access to a vaccine protecting against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), a common illness that can lead to serious complications.
From 15 May, people aged 75 and over, along with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60 and over, will be eligible for a free RSV vaccination through local GPs, pharmacies and community health services. The vaccine, which would otherwise cost around $300, is being funded under a $445 million federal program.
RSV can cause severe illness, particularly among older people and those in aged care, where the risk of spread is higher.
Symptoms can include: runny nose, cough, wheeze, difficulty breathing, fever.
Health Minister Mark Butler urged people to take up the offer, saying: “I encourage eligible Australians to protect themselves and their community this winter by getting vaccinated against RSV.”
The rollout complements existing free influenza and COVID-19 vaccination programs, with health authorities reminding residents that annual flu shots remain the best protection against seasonal illness.
Read more about RSV on the NSW Health website.
Motorists Urged to Take Care as School Holidays End

Police say 11 people have died on NSW roads since the start of the holiday period, bringing the total to 103 fatalities so far this year.
Drivers are being urged to slow down, avoid distractions and take extra care around schools, with school zones returning from Monday. Read more here
