Welcome to our week in review. School holiday time and parking is a breeze in Lane Cove (but it will still be hectic on Easter Saturday as people rush in to buy supplies for Easter Sunday).
On Monday 11th, April 2022, the bus strike did not impact Lane Cove buses. Lane Cove buses are part of Region 7 and are operated by Busways, and they were not part of the strike action. Read more about Busways here.
Heavy Rain – Flash Flooding in Lane Cove Council Area
On 6th April 2022, Lane Cove (and the whole of NSW) experienced heavy rain, which led to some flash flooding around the local government area. A roving reporter sent us photos of the flooding on Epping Road near Centennial Avenue and told us this happens quite regularly. The drains near the bike path are not regularly cleaned.
A roving reporter was cycling along the bike track, which runs along near the M2 (just after Lane Cove), and it is waterlogged. The roving reporter raised the issue of cleaning and maintaining bike paths and was told it is the local council’s responsibility.
Parts of Lane Cove were hit with a power outage on April 7th 2022; this resulted in traffic delays as the lights were out at Centennial Avenue and Epping Road.
New Library in Lane Cove Council Area
Lane Cove Council has successfully applied for a grant to be used for a new library in St Leonards.
The Library is being called – a library for urban renewal.
For those who don’t know, part of St Leonards falls within the Lane Cove Council area, including the controversial St Leonards South (aka East Greenwich) developments.
Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin said 26 local councils, including several in Sydney, will receive grants for projects this year to extend and improve public library buildings, spaces and information technology for local communities.
The State Library of NSW administers the Public Library Infrastructure Grants program on behalf of the Library Council of NSW.
All NSW councils were invited to apply for grants in August 2021. $24 million will be allocated under the program over four years.
Drive Safely This Easter
Drivers who get behind the wheel after drinking will be the focus of this weekend’s Easter road safety operation as police across the state prepare for the long weekend.
Seven people lost their lives during the Easter long weekend in 2021, and more than 300 people were caught under the influence of alcohol.
NSW Police will today launch Easter Operation 2022 – a highly visible police traffic operation with a focus on reducing road fatalities and road trauma this holiday weekend.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Paul Glinn said a significant number of police resources would have a dedicated focus on road safety throughout the five-day operation.
“The number of people who blatantly disregarded the road rules last year and put the broader community at risk was unacceptable,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Paul Glinn said.
“Make no mistake that our police will be out and about this weekend – including on major road networks and on local streets – to catch those doing the wrong thing.”
In addition to targeting drink driving, Police will also have a focus on targeting drivers that are speeding, drug driving, not wearing seatbelts and distracted by mobile phones.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Police Paul Toole said everyone had a role to play to help keep the roads safe this Easter long weekend.
“We need to remember we’ve had extremely wet weather over recent weeks, and as the large-scale recovery operation to repair flood-damaged roads is underway, it’s crucial that drivers plan ahead for potential road closures and how that may impact on journey times,” Mr Toole said.
“It is more important than ever to pay attention, drive to the conditions and be aware of speed limits because we don’t want to see families torn apart by the impacts of road accidents.
“Remember, every police car has the ability to conduct random breath tests, so don’t risk drinking and driving.”
Transport for NSW Deputy Secretary of Safety Environment & Regulation, Tara McCarthy said speeding, fatigue and drink driving remain the biggest killers on NSW roads.
“Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to travel, don’t speed, drive to the conditions, wear your seatbelt, avoid distractions, make sure you’re well rested and never drink or drug drive,” Ms McCarthy said
“It’s also a good idea to visit livetraffic.com to plan your journey beforehand.”
Easter Operation 2022 and double demerit points will begin at 12.01 am tomorrow (Thursday 14 April 2022) and run until 11:59 pm on Monday 18 April 2022.

Greenwich Break-In
A Roving Reporter told us about the following incident that happened last week:
“At around 2 am, a house in Albert Street Greenwich was broken into whilst the residents were asleep.
Chatswood police visited us and other residents to tell us they suspect it is an organised group operating on the lower north shore. The group works with two reportedly new inconspicuous white sedans.
They told us that a wallet and credit cards and door and car keys were stolen and some small devices were. The car keys were for a very new car. The police indicated that the pattern is for this gang to return in a couple of days and steal the vehicle to sell it.
So you need to secure your wallets and keys. Plus, keep an eye out and call Chatswood police if you see anything suspicious.”
