Today (19 July 2022), fixtures and fittings were removed from Mama Hong’s restaurant (see our cover photo).
The restaurant has not operated since 22 March 2022.

Mama Hong’s Arrests
On 23 March 2022, NSW Police officers waited outside the restaurant until two men aged 37 and 28 arrived at the restaurant. They were arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station.
A short time later, officers attended a home at Homebush West, where a 36-year-old woman (the female owner of Mama Hong’s) was arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station.
All three were charged with allegedly take/detain in company with intent to get advantage occasion actual bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.
Owner on Bail
Ann Ngo is Mama Hong’s female owner. She was initially denied bail – read more here.
On 13 May 13 2022, Ann Ngo applied to the Supreme Court for bail, and she was successful. Ann Ngo and the two other men have not entered a plea.
Ann Ngo was back in court on 29 June 2022. Her bail conditions on 13 May 2022 were continued and further conditions were imposed. She is next back in court on 27 July 2022.
The Court ordered:
“The Bail Acknowledgement entered by ANN NGO on the 13 May 2022 is continued and varied:
The current bail conditions are:
- that the accused enter into an agreement to observe the following specified requirement(s) as to conduct while at liberty on bail:
- To be of good behaviour.
- To report to: Burwood Police Station, once daily between 08:00 AM and 08:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The Applicant is to surrender the Applicant’s passport, if any, within 24 hrs, to the police officer in charge at Burwood Police Station and to give undertakings in writing that such is the only passport issued to the Applicant and that the Applicant will not make any application for a fresh passport.
The Applicant is not to go within 500 metres of the boundary of any airport or recognised point of departure for overseas.
The Applicant is not to leave NSW.
The Applicant is not to communicate, directly or indirectly (except through legal advisors) with the complainant, the complainant’s mother or with any person of whom the Applicant has received notice that the person is to be called, or is likely to be called, by the Crown at the Applicant’s trial.
The Applicant is not to approach, contact, assault, molest, harass or otherwise interfere with REDACTED nor incite any other person to do so.
The Applicant is to appear at Burwood Local Court on 27 July 2022 and on any other dates to which the proceedings may be remanded unless excused by the Court.
One acceptable person is to enter into an agreement under which he/she agrees to forfeit $10,000 should the applicant fails to appear before court in accordance with the bail acknowledgement.
Bail is to be entered into before any person authorised under the Bail Act 2013.
Bail is to be automatically revoked in the event of any breach of any one of these conditions and Applicant may thereupon be arrested by any police officer.
That 1 acceptable person(s) acknowledge that he or she (they are) acquainted with the accused and acknowledge that the accused is a responsible person who is likely to comply with the bail acknowledgement.
That 1 acceptable person(s) enter into a bail security agreement or agreement(s) to forfeit the sum of $10000.00 In Total if the accused fails to comply with the bail acknowledgement.
Mama Hong’s Planned to Reopen
Mama Hong posted the following statement on their Instagram page on 9 June 2022:
Mama Hong’s will be reopening soon! Serving our family’s favourite pho to you all. The owner had always dreamed of bringing her mother’s food to Lane Cove. Read our story on Mama Hong when they first opened here.
Given today’s events, it seems unlikely that it will be reopening in the near future.
