Lane Cove Art Society Monthly Meeting with Special Guest Artist Peter Griffen

The Lane Cove Art Society meets on the fourth THURSDAY of each month (except January and December) for a demonstration or talk. Our guest speakers are well-known artists, both traditional and contemporary, who show or explain techniques in a variety of media, or talk about the background to their involvement in art. The meetings are free and in the company of friendly, like-minded people.

The meetings are held at the Living & Leisure Centre, 180 Longueville Rd Lane Cove (3 doors down from Gallery Lane Cove). (Map). The meetings start at 7:30pm with time to meet and talk prior to the demonstration.

Peter is a full time abstract artist and has had over fifty solo exhibitions in Australia plus numerous showings internationally. He works and lives in his studio and also enjoys working en plein air in various parts of the world, especially in the outback of Australia. His work is highly original, imaginative and wild but not frenzied. It is alive and a celebration of the life force and ‘joie de vivre’ expressed in a uniquely Australian way. The chief inspiration for the paintings comes from Australian landscape and Aboriginal art although his work is stylistically unlike it. Outwardly the paintings do not illustrate anything, there is nothing illusionist in them. They are themselves and nothing else. Be challenged by Peter into taking risks in your art work.e
