Lane Cove Council’s Bicycle Advisory Committee presents Lane Cove’s Big Family Fun Ride.
Spring is in the air and with it is the time to enjoy cycling with the whole family at The Big Family Fun Ride! Both routes will be on shared user paths, off-road where possible and away from busy streets.
There will also be multiple skills level courses to choose from and a sausage sizzle.
After you finish your chosen route, all riders will have the opportunity to participate in a cycle skills course organised and run by Pedal, Set, Go.
Please note this event will go ahead in rain or shine.
About the routes
There will be two routes for the Big Family Fun Ride. The two rides are open to all ages with the criteria for selecting your ride being experience and confidence. Riders and parents need to carefully consider riding ability in order to select the most suitable ride. Where possible the rides will highlight Shared User Paths (SUPs) in Lane Cove. All bike riders are requested to be courteous to pedestrians and use their bells to warn them of your approach. It is not a race and all participants must follow the leading cyclist and not attempt to ride ahead of the pack.
Please see the different routes below (please click on the blue link for more information).
The Beginners Route is approx. 2.3 km, an easy, mainly down hill gradient for young children and beginner cyclists. Parents must accompany children on this ride. Bikes do not need to have gears. Training wheels and scooters are welcome. This ride is initially on the Epping Rd Cycleway, then on footpaths to Blackman Park.
The Intermediate Route is approx. 6.2 km and for more confident cyclists. It is not for beginners and recommended that bikes have gears as there will be several hills. Parents must accompany pre-teenage children. This ride is predominantly on SUPs and footpaths.
