St Mary’s Singers will present a concert in St Mary’s Cathedral on Friday 17 November at 7pm.
Featuring Mozart’s scintillating Coronation Mass in C Major (k 217), the concert takes us on a journey through a year in the musical life of the catholic liturgy.
Also included among the works are choral favourites like Haydn’s The Heavens are Telling from the Creation and two movements from Handel’s Messiah; For unto us a child is born and crowd favourite the Hallelujah Chorus. William Byrd’s unaccompanied Emendemus in Melius and the Pentecost plainchant verse Veni Creator Spiritus provide moments of quiet contemplation among some of the musical fireworks.
There will be solo organ works and congregational hymns when audience participation is encouraged.
The soloists include soprano Anna Sandstrom, alto Anna Fraser, tenor William Varga and bass baritone Ben Caukwell.
