Full Swing Quartet Live with Pete Kelly

Why not get yourself down to the Lane Cove Golf Club to sample the rhythmic delights of the FULL SWING Quartet. Full Swing began playing at the Club in April 2007 so for nine years since its first booking, the band has continued its Friday night gig. With a different guest artist each week, it is business as usual, 7pm-10pm on Friday nights at the Lane Cove Golf Club.

There is a cover charge of $5.00 per head for those attending Music at the Club. Children remain free.

This vibrant four-piece band, features Big Band legend Bill Burton on the trumpet and flugelhorn, James McCaffery on drums, Ray Forster on keyboard, and alternating bass players, Craig Scott and Darcy Wright. Guest vocalists and/or instrumentalists each week make this a must-see group, every Friday night.

Full Swing’s exciting combination of musical talent with dynamic vocals is guaranteed to get your head nodding and your dance feet tapping. As well, take advantage of our dance floor to really get into the swing of things. Make a night of it and enjoy a meal.

JAZZ, one word – a thousand stories

Defining jazz, for me, is easy. You take a great melody, with beguiling harmonies and a cool rhythm,
and weave it into an interesting conversation between the players and the audience. Simple really!

So, just what is the basis of this “conversation”? Well, it starts with the songs we choose to perform, songs like
Skylark and East of the Sun, as well as, Lazy Afternoon and Manha De Carnaval.
These are all examples of beautifully crafted songs that offer a musician a dynamic
and fluid backdrop onto which they can shape any statement they want to make at that particular moment.

I was very fortunate to have worked with some of the best jazz musicians including Monique Lysiak,
Ron Philpot, Grahame Conlon, Peter Locke, Evan Lohning, Cameron Jones and Bobby Gebert to name but a few.
In Hong Kong I have continued my good fortune, by working with Guy Le Claire, Nicholas Bouloukos,
Scott Dodd, Sebastian Meyer,Skip Moy, Tsang Tak Hong and Rickard Malmsten.
I feel very humbled to have been able to present these wonderful musicians in bands that I have led.
In 2007, I took over the hosting of Freddie’s Jazz Jam at the Bald Faced Stag Hotel in Leichhardt,
turning it into the much loved (by me anyway) Pete Kelly’s Jazz Jam Deluxe.
This jam soon became a mini Mecca for other musicians with nowhere else to play.
After 2 years, we moved to Wheels and Cupcake in Alexandria, and this is when we really took off.
Over the next 3 years, we would attract some of Sydney’s best young players
as well as many established jazz players.
All the while, I was refining my own musical tastes and learning valuable lessons in stagecraft.
