Women & Children First are excited to announce the inaugural Women and Children First International Women’s Day lunch!

Taking place in the picturesque surroundings of Manly Golf Club on 4th March 2022, well known actor, author and comedian Jean Kittson will MC the event. You will hear from a lived- experience domestic abuse survivor which will provide a personal and moving insight into the daily challenges of those experiencing domestic abuse.

In Australia 44% of females aged 15-34 have experienced some form of physical or emotional abuse in their life. While this statistic itself is shocking, the prevalence of domestic abuse is rapidly increasing, with Australian police responding to an average of 558 domestic abuse matters daily. But these are just the ones that are reported, many more go unreported due to a fear of being caught by the perpetrator. Women and Children First therefore acts as safe place for victims to find support.

Women & Children First is a community-based service located in the Northern Beaches and North Shore. It provides services for women and vulnerable families escaping domestic and family abuse. In 2021, 631 women and their children accessed our crisis accommodation and an additional 365 families sought help from our family support services.

International Women’s Day takes place each year on March 8th. It is an annual event designed specifically to celebrate the historical, cultural and political achievements of women. It focuses’ on breaking down the bias, stereotypes and discrimination that women around the world continue to face.
