About the Curator

Xiaoxiao Zhang is the founder and director of CBD Gallery, a dynamic contemporary art space established in May 2023 in a four-level heritage building in Sydney’s CBD. With a passion for showcasing emerging and established Australian artists, Zhang has positioned CBD Gallery as a vital platform for innovative voices in the local art scene, emphasising diverse practices that bridge cultural narratives and contemporary issues.

Her curatorial vision draws from a strong educational foundation, including a Master’s degree in Commerce from RMIT University in Melbourne, a Diploma of Visual Art, and a Certificate of Museum Management from TAFE Meadowbank. This background has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of art culture and art business.

In her role as gallery founder & director, Zhang has built CBD Gallery into a hub for thought-provoking shows, such as “Landscapes Reimagined” Group exhibition and solo presentations like Nicole Zhang’s “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.” and Martin Claydon’s “Leave of the Brush”

As a curator, Zhang has organized a series of acclaimed exhibitions, including “New Voices,” a group show highlighting fresh talents from the National Art School. She has also represented CBD Gallery at prestigious events such as Sydney Contemporary in 2024 and 2025, fostering connections with collectors and institutions.

Committed to nurturing Australian-Chinese artists, she is now curating “Lunar Harmony,” CBD Gallery’s inaugural off-site group exhibition at Gallery Lane Cove. This show, celebrates the 2026 Chinese New Year, featuring works by Aimee Meng, Chunxiao Qu, Jennifer Van Ratingen, Zi Xin, Nicole Zhang, Mei Zhao, and Tian Qi Lin, delving into themes of cultural memory, belonging, and intergenerational dialogue.
