The ABC Friends’ 2025 Election Platform – Guest Speaker Cassandra Parkinson

With the Federal election called, Cassandra Parkinson, ABC Friends National President is calling on all Federal candidates to ensure a fearless, independent & well funded ABC.  She will talk about her six point vision to rebuild & restore the ABC so that our national broadcaster is strong, independent and well funded into the future at its meeting at the ABC Friends Northern Suburbs of Sydney meeting on Thursday 10 April, 2025.

Cassandra will highlight the importance of Australia’s national public broadcaster to be fearless, independent and provide quality news, education, and entertainment services that reflect Australia’s diversity and foster healthy public debate. All this requires a restoration of a decade of funding cuts.

Cassandra Parkinson will call on all federal candidates to support  ABC Friends’ six point vision:

1. Restore ABC funding by $140 million per year to be phased in progressively over a 3-year period commencing in 2026.
2. Fully fund the ABC’s emergency service through a supplementary fund dedicated to keeping Australians safe in times of crisis.
3. Guarantee the ABC remains free-to-access for all Australians: no ads, no subscriptions and no downgrading of services.
4. Provide additional funding to ensure that high quality ABC services can be received by all Australians across the country.
5. Guarantee the ABC’s independence.
6. Change the indexation formula for the ABC to cover the impact of real-world inflation, including the cost of content production.
