3 Good Things You Can Do for the Lane Cove Community

You know the saying it takes a village to raise a child.  It also takes a village to make a village a clean and safe place to live in.  Here are three things you can do to make Lane Cove a cleaner and safer place.

Snap Send Solve

Have you seen an issue that requires Lane Cove Council’s attention?  It’s easy to report it.  All you need to do is download the Snap Send Solve app or go to their website.  Below is is an example reported by the In the Cove team to the Lane Cove Council via the Snap Send Solve app.

Metal Pipe Sticking Out of Ground near Local School

On our daily walk, Mr ITC spotted a nasty jagged piece of pipe jutting out of the ground near a local school.  School was due back the next week so we reported the pipe via Snap Send Solve.  The issue was fixed within a week

Vandaltrak

VandalTrak was formed by Antony Krkac when he realised that attempts to record, report and remove graffiti, and to prosecute the offenders, have been frustrated by a patchwork of complicated procedures. He and a group of concerned citizens began working on a graffiti management program that would help members of the public to join forces with local councils, businesses, the police and volunteer clean up groups.

At VandalTrak, they believe that graffiti happens when good people do nothing to prevent it. Their solution is to mobilise citizens to help their local police identify and track graffiti vandals.

It uses GPS coordinates to fix the precise location of each tag. Users don’t need to install any software, and it doesn’t matter whether they use a Mac or a PC. All that’s needed is access to the Internet and a current web browser.

Take 3 For the Sea

This not for profit has a simple message, take 3 pieces of rubbish with you when you leave the beach, waterway or…anywhere and you’ve made a difference.

Plastic gets into the ocean in all sorts of ways but most of it comes from land. By preventing the problem in the first place, we can start to make a real impact in reducing plastic pollution.

Picking up other people’s rubbish may not be a natural instinct, but their supporters find that they pick up many more than 3 items once they get started!

Join together with friends to Take 3, or make it a mindful moment of your daily or weekly routine and you’ll create a new habit that’s good for both you and the planet!

If you want to share what you’ve collected, take a picture and upload it to Instagram or Facebook using the hashtag #Take3fortheSea and logging the location. We can then record the number of items that are being removed and measure the tangible difference we’re making as a collective!

This is what ITC collected just between the Lane Cove Library and St Michael’s Primary School.  You will see that this included two takeaway coffee cups – the Lane Cove Sustainability Action Group currently has a campaign where they are encouraging coffee drinkers to use refillable cups.

So ask yourself, what can I do for the community?  Any of the above is a start.
