Don’t Throw It Away – Fix It with The Repair Cafe

A group of dedicated local residents are behind Repair Cafe Sydney North.  A repair cafe is a group of skilled local residents who want to fix things instead of throwing them away. Lane Cove residents are invited to bring broken items from home and watch them being repaired.  You may even be inspired to learn how the repairs are made.

Most things are fixed during the Repair Cafe opening hours, however more challenging items might be referred to a local speciality repair shop.

Volunteers aren’t necessarily tradespeople but they are good with their hands – people who love to work with objects. Many people who love bikes have learned how to repair and maintain them; others can sew, alter and transform old clothes; still others are fascinated by how watches work.

1st and 2nd Sundays of the month 2-4 pm.

The Living and Learning Centre, 164-180 Longueville Road, Lane Cove.

Next Openings: March 7 and March 14, 2021 (always the 2 first Sundays of the month)

Time: 2pm to 4pm

What will they repair?

sharpening tools:
small woodwork repairs;
battery operated items.

Sometimes even what might be seen as a trivial and cheap item is worth fixing. Like the kitchen tongs (pictured below) that now have a brand new smart brass rivet. They might be cheap to buy at the supermarket but hey, we sure pay in other ways with the environmental and social damage created through mining the raw materials and the energy (both human and machine) taken to manufacture. Not to mention disposal costs!

How much does it cost?

Nada, Nothing, Zip, No Charge – of course if you would like to make a donation that would be appreciated.

Why is it called Repair Cafe?

You get repairs done and you can have free trade coffee and tea, organic milk and speciality cakes including gluten-free, sugar-free, fat-free, dairy-free.
